Jacks Dominate in Record-Breaking Win Over Capilano, 123-69

BURNABY, B.C. – The Humboldt State men's basketball team broke the program record for points in a single game as they defeated Capilano University in Monday night's 123-69 victory in Burnaby, D.C. The record was previously set during the 2001-02 season when HSU scored 119 points versus BYU Hawaii.

"We did a nice job playing 40 minutes of basketball tonight," said HSU Head Coach Steve Kinder. "We went deep in our bench and played assist basketball. We shared the ball extremely well, which is becoming a trademark of this team and a trait that enhances our chances to win."

The Jacks collaborated to hold a lead for the entire 40 minutes and compiled a 59.1 field goal percentage. Jack Kaub and Justin Everett combined to give HSU a nine-point lead from the start. A 10-2 point run at 12:35 put the Green and Gold ahead 32-10. Calvin Young II was dominant in the paint with seven rebounds before the half. Everett and Young both scored five points in the first half, and the Jacks went to the locker room up 58-31.

The Green and Gold reserves brought the heat in the second half and extended the lead. Everett stole the ball early and took it for a jumper that helped the Jacks keep a 30-point gap on the Blues. The Jacks scored 78 bench points with 19 steals, scoring 39 points off turnovers before closing the game 123-69.

Deion Alston led the victorious Green and Gold by totaling 19 points on the night. Five other Jacks ended with points in the double digits including Young (16), Everett (16), Jackson Strong (11) and LJ Williams (10).

"This trip has energized us collectively," said Kinder. "We are excited about our first conference game this Friday at Sonoma State."

HSU stays on the road to begin CCAA play against Sonoma State in Rohnert Park, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
