Sheiring Shines, HSU Closes Out Desert Stinger with Win

LAS VEGAS – Lexee Sheiring tossed four no-hit innings and Humboldt State softball wrapped up the Desert Stinger Tournament with a 3-0 win versus Fort Lewis Sunday afternoon.

The Lumberjacks threatened to score in the first, but weren't able to get on the board until the bottom of the third. Danica Grier and Winona Vigil scored on a one-out Kelly Sonnemann single through the left side.

Micaela Harris capped HSU's scoring effort with a solo home run in the sixth. The freshman from Rocklin, Calif., compiled a .444 batting average and led the Jacks with eight hits and five stolen bases during the Tournament.

It took some time, but Sheiring showed great improvement in her third appearance of the season. She tossed a complete game, fanned four and scattered three hits on her way to her first collegiate win.

HSU was limited to just four hits in the game, but the North Coast squad made them count. Vigil, Sonnemann, Harris and Grier each recorded hits against the Skyhawks. Through the first five games of the season, Grier leads the Green and Gold with a .556 batting average.

Another road trip awaits the Jacks as they travel to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills next weekend in Carson, Calif. The Toros are off to a 2-3 start and the conference series begins Friday at noon.
