TURLOCK, Calif. – The Lumberjacks registered 10 hits, their most in the last six games, but it wasn't enough as Humboldt State softball fell to Azusa Pacific, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Tournament of Champions.
Rylie Carlier drove in her first of two runs with an RBI single down the left field line in the first inning against Cougars' starting pitcher Kat Ung.
Azusa evened the score with an Erinn Jaramillo run-scoring single in the second, and HSU watched the Cougars pull away with three more runs two innings later. Jaramillo supplied two of Azusa's eight hits off Lumberjack starter
Jasmine Hill.
Hill logged 6.0 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits. Her record moved to 6-3 with the decision.
Carlier helped the Green and Gold plate their only other run with a one-out grounder to second, which scored
Hanna Holland from third base. Holland was the Jacks' top batter and finished with a three hits for just the second time this season.
The Cougars capped the game with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Emily Moran.
HSU's late game against Concordia (Ore.) was canceled due to inclement weather. The Lumberjacks take on Saint Martin's Sunday at 9 a.m.
