Sheiring Pitches Softball to Series Split

SAN FRANCISCO – A complete game shutout from freshman Lexee Sheiring in the series finale salvaged Humboldt State's split with San Francisco State. The Lumberjacks dropped Saturday's first game 8-3 before winning the second 3-0.

The Gators registered 14 hits and ended Green and Gold starter Jasmine Hill's afternoon after two innings. Hill allowed six hits and six runs, five earned, in her seventh loss of the season.

SF State had three consecutive hits to open the game capped by a two-run triple to get things started. The Gators scored four runs in the third and added one more in the fourth and fifth frames. Andrea Hilden and Hayley Nunes had three hits apiece for the home team.

Illa Haley brought home a pair of runs for the Jacks. Haley had an RBI single in the third and drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth. Amber Orchard finished HSU's scoring effort with a one-out RBI single to left field in the fifth inning.

Sheiring limited the Gators to just three hits in the finale. She yielded a pair of hits in the first frame, but allowed just one more the rest of the way. The freshman earned her eighth victory of the season and helped the North Coast squad improve its season record to 19-21.

Three Jacks recorded two hits in the win, including Winona Vigil, Orchard and Haley.

HSU hosts California Collegiate Athletic Association leader Chico State next weekend. The series begins Friday at 1 p.m.
