ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's soccer team will be tested early as they face the 19th ranked team in the nation in Concordia (Ore.) University at the Sonoma State Invitational. The match will kick off Thursday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Seawolf Soccer Stadium in Rohnert Park.
HSU looks to build off its strong performance last week as the Lumberjacks defeated Corban University 2-0 in an exhibition matchup. The Green and Gold missed on a couple of scoring chances early but broke up the tie with a goal from junior forward
Kaleigh Alves at the 41:26 mark. The Jacks outshot the Warriors in the second half 13-2 as senior forward
Alex Jenkins added to the lead with her own goal, slipping one by the keeper in the 73rd minute.
"Coming out of the game against Corban we learned a lot more about ourselves," said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "It was a really good challenge for us, to break them down and to score some goals. We had a lot of opportunities and maybe we should have scored a little more but the two goals we did have were very good and we played a lot of good football on the day. That leads to a nice stretch to prepare for the 19th ranked team in the country, Concordia. They are no small feat, they are very good and it's a great challenge on opening day."
HSU enters the game with a 1-1-0 overall record against Concordia. The Jacks dropped a hard-fought match to the Cavaliers 1-0 in the team's last matchup in 2016.
The Jacks wrap-up the weekend against another strong opponent in Dominican University on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at Sonoma State.
