ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State women's soccer team will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. as they travel to Rohnert Park to face the rival Seawolves of Sonoma State.

"We have just come through a very difficult preseason with a 2-1-1 record that could have easily been 0-4 if this group wasn't as committed as they are," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "We have an opportunity to open up against one of the top teams in the conference on the road against Sonoma and that is fantastic."

The Jacks return from their Colorado road trip during which they faced Western State last Friday, winning 4-2. On Sunday, HSU played the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa to a 1-1 tie.

Senior forward Alex Jenkins continues to produce offensively, as she leads the Green and Gold in points with four goals and one assist on the season. After recording six saves against Colorado Mesa, senior goalkeeper Nora Goodrie enters the week with a .706 save percentage on 42 shots faced.

After starting the season with two ties, the Sonoma State Seawolves have won two straight as they defeated Azusa Pacific, 4-1, and beat Concordia-Irvine, 2-1, last Saturday.

The Seawolves offense is well-rounded with eight different players recording at least one goal. Junior defender Riley West leads the charge with a team-best 15 shots and two assists as well as a goal. Senior goalkeeper Kristin Spear has been dominant in goal with 15 saves on 39 shots faced.

"We always play to win games and have the expectation to come out of this weekend with six points," said Karver. "We have a fantastic opportunity in front of us and this group loves a challenge."

The women's squad will have its home opener Sunday, Sept. 16 when San Francisco State visits the North Coast. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m at College Creek Field.
