Coyotes Top Volleyball In Straight Sets

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team lost to Cal State San Bernardino 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-10) Friday night in Coussoulis Arena.

"Tonight we took a beating from a very talented San Bernardino team," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "We didn't play with the passion and the heart that I'm used to seeing from my team and I'm disappointed in that. We will come ready tomorrow versus a very strong Pomona squad."

Entering the night with a team-best 86 kills, Lauren Reid led the scoring with seven more against the Coyotes, but the offense never found success Friday. The first set had a promising start as HSU led 2-1, but San Bernardino dominated the set against a sputtering Jacks' attack. The Coyotes finished with 10 of the last 11 points in the 25-11 victory.

San Bernardino scored the first two points of the second set and never trailed on its way to a 25-13 decision. HSU had as many errors as kills in the set, seven, and Reid led the way with three kills.

The Coyotes' wrapped their home opener with a dominating performance. San Bernardino compiled a match-high .560 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-10 win.

Juliana Bertolucci led the Jacks with 13 assists in the match, and Natalie Picone had a team-best six digs.

HSU stays on the road and takes on Cal Poly Pomona Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
