Women's Soccer Seeks Conference Success on SoCal Trip

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's soccer team prepares to bounce back from a pair of losses on its two-game road trip to Southern California. HSU kicks off against Cal State Los Angeles Friday at 7 p.m. and wraps up the trip with Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday at 2 p.m.

"LA and Dominguez will prove to be a big challenge on the road this weekend," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "The group as a whole will agree that we underachieved this past week, and there is no better way to get things back on track than to take on the best. This weekend will give us that opportunity."

The Lumberjacks look to get their offense back on track after being shut out in two consecutive games to open conference play. Senior forward Alex Jenkins has been in excellent form to begin the season and is currently second in the conference with four goals. The Loomis, Calif. native also leads the team with one assist.

The Golden Eagles of Cal State LA have jumped out to a 4-1-1 record overall and sit at 1-0-1 in the conference. The SoCal squad is led by senior goalkeeper Adriana Maldonado who has only allowed three goals in six games. Maldonado leads the conference with three shutouts and 30 saves, and she is second in goals against average (.469).

HSU fell to the Golden Eagles, 1-0, when they visited College Creek Field last season. The Jacks have a 2-9-2 record when facing Cal State LA.

The North Coast squad will travel to Carson to take on the Toros of Dominguez Hills following Friday's game. The Toros have struggled so far this season only producing four goals on their way to a 0-4-1 overall record. The Jacks lost last year's meeting, 1-0.
