ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State women's soccer team is looking to build on the success of its SoCal road trip, as the Lumberjacks make a return visit this weekend. HSU faces Cal State San Marcos Friday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m. and concludes the trip against the No. 1-ranked team in the country as they square off against the Tritons of UC San Diego Sunday, Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m.

"The next two opponents are going to give two really different styles of play, two big challenges," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "We open with San Marcos who plays what I refer to as the ultimate anti-soccer. They're very direct, the ball is in the air the majority of the time and if there were two polarizing styles of play it would be what they do and what we do. The Friday afternoon game is going to be a lot of who can get control of the game and who can enforce the way that they want to play on the other team, and whoever can do that is going to be successful. We're going to have to be a little more mentally strong and not fall into the kickball game they are going to want to play."

The Jacks currently sit at 3-4-1 overall with a 1-3-0 conference record. The Green and Gold will look to senior forward Alex Jenkins to help create that offensive spark. Jenkins has been extremely efficient so far this season with five goals and one assist, which makes her the conference's second-highest scorer.

Cal State San Marcos enters the weekend at 3-3-1 with a 2-0-0 record in CCAA play.  Following two conference victories against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay, the Cougars dropped last week's match 2-0 versus UCSD. San Marcos will rely on its well-balanced offense that has seen five different players with at least one goal.

UC San Diego has been on a tear to begin the season, and its 7-0-1 record has the Tritons ranked as the top school in the nation. Winners of five consecutive games, UCSD boasts the conferences best scorer, senior forward Mary Reilly. Reilly leads the conference with 37 shots, seven goals and three game-winners.
