SAN MARCOS, Calif---  Humboldt State's men's soccer team fell to 5-5 overall with their 3-0 loss at the hands of Cal State San Marcos this afternoon in San Marcos, Calif.  The Lumberjacks did record six shots on goal attempts with two each coming from Isaiah Dairo and Devin Hauenstein, but the 'Jacks could not get the ball past Matt Escareno who had six saves on the day.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH:  "This game cane be ruthless sometimes and CCAA trips to Southern California have a way of emphasizing that," said head coach Fred Jungemann.  "Like Friday, we played very well again today, but we are leaving Southern California with nothing to show for our performance.  Cal State San Marcos was very sharp today and particularly in front of goal.  It was a well-played game on both sides, but though they were more clinical than us and ultimately that's what made the difference."

FIRST HALF:  Cal State San Marcos (4-6-2, 2-2-2 CCAA) had five shot attempts from the eight minute to sixteen minute marks including three by Tyler Schrock, bur all either high of the net or wide.  Isaiah Dairo had a chance to give the Lumberjacks the lead, but Matt Escareno made one of his six saves in the 27th minute.  Three minutes later, CSUSM had a chance to take the lead when Juan Salazar's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Lumberjacks' Robert Quintero.  The hosts took the 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on a goal by Salazar off a ball from Taylor Koptieff.  HSU had a chance to tie the match in the 39th minute, but Israel Gonzalez's shot sailed right off the top of the goal.  The 'Jacks had another chance in the 41st minute when Ethan Waters' shot sailed left of the net as the hosts took a 1-0 lead into the half.

SECOND HALF:  Humboldt State (5-5, 1-4 CCAA) came out strong in the second half as Angel Rodriguez's shot attempt went high over the net in the 46th minute.  In the 53rd minute, Escareno made another stop this time off the foot of Jacob Hoffman.  The Cougars doubled their lead in the 56th minute on an unassisted goal by Tyler Schrock.  HSU had a chance to cut the deficit in half when Dairo's shot sailed left of the goal.  Devin Hauenstein had another to chance to give HSU its first goal in the 66th minute when Escareno made another stop of a 'Jack shot on goal attempt.  Three minutes later, Dalton Rice saw his chance to cut into the Cougar lead when he shot went over the top right of the goal.  Cal State San Marcos increased its lead to 3-0 on a goal by Richard Humphreys in the 70th minute.  This was just eight seconds later after Quintero stopped Kevin Reyes' shot on goal attempt.  HSU had three chances in the final 11 minutes to cut into the Cougar lead, but Dario's' two attempts went over the top left of the goal and Escareno stopped Hauenstein's attempt and CSUSM held on for the 3-0 victory.

GOALIES:  Robert Quintero had three saves in goal for the Lumberjacks while Matt Escareno had six saves in goal for the Cougars.

UP NEXT:  Humboldt State will return home to College Creek Field for two CCAA matches on October 18 and 20.  The Lumberjacks will host Cal State East Bay on October 18 at 3pm and Cal State Monterey Bay on October 20 at 2pm.
