LOS ANGELES, Calif.--- Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles (10-6, 4-4 CCAA) swept this evening's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match with the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks (25-18, 25-13, 25-8) at Cal State LA Gymnasium.
Lenox Loving had a team high eight kills with
Odelia Ryan recording nine digs for the visitors.
FIRST SET: The first set went back and forth until the Golden Eagles, who are receiving votes in the AVCA/NCAA Division II Poll, took a 11-7 lead on a kill by Daisy Crenshaw. A kill by
Summer Hansen cut the Lumberjacks' deficit to 14-11. Cal State Los Angeles increased its lead back to five (16-11) on back to back kills by Julia Azevedo and Mickayla Sherman. Humboldt State would not go away as once again the Lumberjacks cut the hosts' lead to three (16-13) this time on back to back kills by Lexi Rigs and
Lenox Loving. The hosts scored five of the next six points to take a 21-14 lead.
Emma Flewell had a block solo and a kill to cut CSULA's lead to 22-16. Cal State Los Angeles scored four of the final six points of the set to take the first set 25-18.
SECOND SET: Cal State Los Angeles took a 6-1 lead in the seconds set and increased it to 9-2. Humboldt State (5-10, 1-7 CCAA) scored three of the next four points keyed by back to back combined blocks by
Malia Coyle and Riggs to cut its deficit to 9-5. The Golden Eagles built a 20-10 lead capped by a block by Mickayla Sherman. HSU scored three of next six points keyed by a kill by
Lenox Loving and a combined block by Flewell and Riggs. Cal State Los Angeles increased its lead in the match 2-0 as the Golden Eagles finished the second set with the final two points to take the set 25-13.
THIRD SET: The Golden Eagles took an 8-1 lead in the third set. HSU scored the next two points on hitting errors by the hosts. The hosts increased their lead to 20-5 capped by back to back service aces by Janessa Mata. Humboldt State cut the CSULA lead to 21-7 on kills by Loving and Coyle. Cal State Los Angeles finished the match scoring four of the final five points to take set 25-8 and the match 3-0.
LUMBERJACK LEADERS: Lenox Loving had a team high eight kills with
Lexi Riggs recording three blocks followed by
Malia Coyle and
Emma Flewell each with two.
Riley Tishlarich led HSU with 10 assists.
Odelia Ryan had nine digs to lead the way for the 'Jacks.
UP NEXT: HSU will travel to Carson, Calif., tomorrow evening for a 7pm match with Cal State Dominguez Hills. Earlier this season, the Lumberjacks lost to the Toros in three sets (10-25, 20-25, 11-25) in Carson on Sept. 6 and in four sets (22-25, 25-19, 14-25, 17-25) in San Francisco on Sept .12 in non-conference matches. The Toros defeated Sonoma State this evening in four sets (25-22, 25-12, 17-25, 25-20) in Carson.
