Story Links

ARCATA, Calif.---  Humboldt State Lumberjacks recorded their second shutout of the season in their 3-0 CCAA home victory over the visiting Stanislaus State Warriors.  All three of the Lumberjack goals came in the second half while Robert Quintero recorded five saves en route to the shutout.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH: "it was great to see our boys respond after Friday's difficult result," said head coach Fred Jungemann.  "The guys showed a lot of character today and played very well.  The defense had a strong performance and got a well-deserved shutout.  The offense was dangerous throughout and scored some nice goals.  It was one of those games, where you just sit back and enjoy it when everything is clicking."

FIRST HALF:  Stanislaus State (3-6, 0-4 CCAA) had the first shot on goal attempt of the match in the 58th second of the game as Robert Quintero stopped Sebastian Cole's shot on goal attempt.  The Lumberjacks had a chance to take the lead in the 18th minute when Isaiah Dairo's shot was blocked by the Warrior defense.  Quintero made another save in the 29th minute, when he stopped Adrian Yepez's shot on goal attempt.  Gus Baxter had a chance to give HSU the lead, but his shot attempt sailed high over the net in the 33rd minute.  HSU had two more chances late in the half, but Jacob Hoffman's shot was blocked and Dylan Tovani's shot sailed high over the net as the game went into the half tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF:  Humboldt State (5-3, 1-2 CCAA) came out on fire in the second half.  Just five minutes into the new half, Marco Silveira's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Justin Motzkus.  HSU took the 1-0 lead in the 56th minute, when Isaiah Dairo scored from about 22 yards out for his team leading sixth goal of the season.  The Lumberjacks kept the momentum going as they doubled the lead in the 70th minute, when Nicolas Falco scored his first collegiate goal off a ball from Motoki Sato.  HSU sealed the match in the 72nd minute as Devin Hauenstein connected on a long pass from Martin Calderon as the 'Jacks took the 3-0 lead.  The hosts had one more chance to increase their lead to 4-0, but Baxter's shot sailed high over the net and HSU took the 3-0 victory.

GOALIES:  Robert Quintero had five saves in goal for the HSU while Justin Motzkus had one save in goal for the guests.

UP NEXT:  Humboldt State will be in Southern California for two CCAA matches next week.  The Lumberjacks will face No. 2 UC San Diego on Friday, October 11 at 4:30pm in La Jolla, Calif.  They will travel to San Marcos on Sunday, October 13 for a 2pm starting match with Cal State San Marcos.  HSU will return home on Friday, October 18 at 3pm, when the Lumberjacks host Cal State East Bay.
