ARCATA, Calif.--- The Humboldt State Lumberjacks rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match at 2-2, but Chico State took the fifth and final set to take the match 3-2.
Summer Hansen had a match high 15 kills while
Lenox Loving recorded 11 kills to go with her 17 digs.
Malia Coyle added seven total blocks for the Lumberjacks who will host Stanislaus State on Saturday, November 2 at 5pm.
FIRST SET: Chico State (11-7, 7-6 CCAA) fell behind 3-0 in the first set as the Lumberjacks scored the first three points of the match. The Wildcats took an 8-6 lead on a kill by Kelley Jacome. They increased their lead to 12-8 on a combined block by Kim Wright and Jacome. Humboldt State tied the match at 18-18 on a service ace by
Emma Flewell. Chico State scored the next six points to take a 24-18 lead and finished the set off on a kill by Wright to take the set 25-18.
SECOND SET: The Wildcats took a 9-4 lead in the second set. Humboldt State came right back and tied the match at 10-10 keyed by back to back kills by Flewell and
Lenox Loving. The match went back and forth until HSU took a 15-13 lead on a kill by
Summer Hansen and a hitting error by the visitors. Chico State scored seven of the next eight points to take a 20-16 lead on a kill by Brooke Ono. HSU once again didn't back down and cut its deficit to 21-19 on back to back kills by Flewell. The Wildcats finished the set off scoring four of the final six points to take the set 25-21 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: After the break, Humboldt State (5-14, 1-11 CCAA) took a 6-1 lead. The Lumberjacks increased the lead to 11-5 on a kill by
Riley Tishlarich off an assist from Loving. Back to back kills by
Summer Hansen gave HSU a 19-10 lead while the Lumberjacks increased their lead to 23-13 on a kill by
Lexi Riggs. They finished the set on a kill by Loving to take the third set 25-16 and cut Chico State's lead to 2-1.
FOURTH SET: Once again, HSU came out on fire in the fourth set and took a 7-3 lead. The 'Jacks scored five of the next eight points keyed by a
Juliana Bertolucci service ace and a kill by
Malia Coyle to take a 12-6 lead. The Wildcats cut the HSU lead to 17-12 on a kill by Makaela Keeve. A kill by Jacome cut the 'Jack lead to 18-17, but the 'Jacks finished the set off taking the final seven points capped by back to back hitting errors by Chico State 25-17. With the win, Humboldt State tied the match at 2-2.
FIFTH SET: in the fifth and final set, a kill by Hansen gave HSU a brief 2-1 lead. With Gretta Kirby serving, scored the next 13 straight points to take a 14-2 lead. A hitting error by Chico State and a kill by Flewell cut the Wildcats' lead to 14-4. A kill by Wright gave Chico State the 15-4 set and the match 3-2.
LUMBERJACK LEADERS: HSU was led by
Summer Hansen with 15 kills followed by
Lenox Loving's 11 kills.
Riley Tishlarich had 20 assists and
Juliana Bertolucci chipped in 18. Bertolucci had a team high three service aces while
Odelia Ryan recorded 21 digs. Loving added 21 digs and
Malia Coyle added seven total blocks.
