Story Links

ARCATA, Calif.---  Humboldt State scored three unanswered goals in the second half to key its 3-1 come-from-behind win over the visiting San Francisco State Gators. Marco Silveira scored a goal and recorded an assist for the Lumberjacks.  Isaiah Dairo and Dalton Rice also scored goals for the victoris while Rudi McClellan added an assist for the hosts.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH:  "Once again our guys came out and had a strong performance against a very good team," said head coach Fred Jungemann.  "The biggest difference today was that we managed to get the result our performance merited.  We stuck to the game plan, created some quality scoring chances, and managed the game very well.  Our guys showed their spirit once again coming from behind, after conceding late in the first half.  Hopefully this will be the shot of confidence we need to move forward to finish the season strong in front of our home fans next weekend.

FIRST HALF:  Dalton Rice had a chance to give the Lumberjacks the 1-0 lead in the third minute, but his shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Gators' Peter Swinkels. In the 19th minute, the Lumberjacks had another chance at the lead when Isaiah Dairo's shot was stopped by Swinkels.  San Francisco State (9-5, 6-4 CCAA) took the 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute when Jonathan Orozco connected on a ball from Brandon Sands.  Nicolas Falco had a chance at the equalizer for Humboldt State but his shot sailed wide right to send the match into halftime with SF State leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:  Humboldt State (7-8, 3-7 CCAA) came out on the locker room at the half on fire as Devin Hauenstein had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 just a minute into the second half when Swinkels made another save.  In the 57th minute, Isaiah Dairo connected on his tenth goal of the season off a ball from Hauenstein to tie the match at 1-1.  Six minutes later, HSU took the 2-1 lead as Marco Silveira connected on ball from Rudi McClellan for the go-ahead goal.  The Lumberjacks sealed the match in the 71st minute as Dalton Rice connected on a missed shot by Silveira to increase the hosts' lead to 3-1.

GOALIES:  Tab Heinz had four saves in goal for HSU while Peter Swinkels had five in goal for the Gaotrs.

UP NEXT:  HSU will host its final two matches of the regular season next week at College Creek Field.  The Lumberjacks will entertain Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, November 7 at 3pm.  On Saturday, November 8, HSU will host No. 4 Cal State Los Angeles on Senior Day at 11:30am.
