Story Links

ARCATA, Calif.---  The trio of Isaiah Dairo, Devin Hauenstein and Marco Silveira were part of both of Humboldt State's two goals in the Lumberjacks' victory over the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros.  Making his first start in over two weeks, Robert Quintero had ten saves in goal for the victors.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH:  "Today was another good result for our guys, in a really tough game," said head coach Fred Jungemann.  "Dominguez pressed us early and got us out of our rhythm a bit.  We got an early goal which certainly didn't hurt our confidence.  From that point on though it was a pretty wide-open and even game.  Both teams created plenty of chances, but our defense held strong.  It was a frantic game and we could've kept our composure a bit better.  In the end, we got a late goal that made the difference and sealed the points."

FIRST HALF:  In the 52nd second of the match, Isaiah Dairo connected on his 11th goal of the season off a double assist from Devin Hauenstein and Marco Silviera to give Humboldt State the 1-0 lead.  Silveira had two chances in the sixth minute to double the Lumberjacks' lead but Bryan Shihad stopped both attempts.  Robert Quintero made two huge saves in the 12th minute to keep the score 1-0 Humboldt State.  Dairo had a chance to double the Lumberjacks' lead in the 42nd minute when Shiharad made another save.  The Toros (4-10, 3-7 CCAA) had a chance to the match late in the match but Quintero made another save to send the match into the half with Humboldt State leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:  In the 56th minute, HSU looked like it was going to double its lead when Motoki Sato's shot sailed high over the net.  Quintero made another of his ten saves in the 73rd minute, this time off the foot of Jose Soto. Just one minute later, Austin De Medeiros tied the match at 1-1 as he connected on a ball from Cesar Rivera.  Marco Silveira had a chance to give the hosts back the lead in the 80th minute when Shihad made the save.  Then with a little over two minutes left in regulation, Dairo connected on a ball again from Hauenstein and Silveira to give Humboldt State the 2-1 lead.  The Toros could not get a shot off in the final minutes as the 'Jacks took the 2-1 victory.

UP NEXT:  HSU will finish off its regular season this Saturday, November 9 at 11:30am, when the Lumberjacks host No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles.  Prior to the match, the Lumberjacks will recognize its five seniors in Gus Baxter, Isaiah Dairo, Israel Gonzalez, Rudi McClellan, Robert Quintero and Daltron Rice.
