ARCATA, Calif..--- Humboldt State's
Alexia Thrower had a season high 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to key the Lumberjacks' 64-58 victory over the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves in both team's conference opener at Lumberjack Arena.
Gabrielle Carbajal chipped in 13 points for the hosts, who will host Cal State L.A. this Saturday at 5:30pm on Military Appreciation Night.

FIRST QUARTER: Sonoma State (3-2, 0-1 CCAA) jumped out to an 8-2 lead four minutes into the first quarter. The Lumberjacks went on an 8-3 run to cut their deficit to 11-10 on a three by Carbajal off an assist from Thrower. HSU finished the quarter outscoring its guests 14-6 to take a 24-17 lead capped by a lay-up by Thrower.
SECOND QUARTER. SSU started the second quarter scoring the first four points to cut the hosts' lead to 24-21. Two made free throws by
Tyra Turner increased the 'Jack lead to 28-21 with 4:02 left in the half. Sonoma State finished the half on an 8-3 run to cut HSU's lead to 31-29 heading into the half.
THIRD QUARTER: A three by
Molly Dixon off an assist from Carbajal gave Humboldt State (3-1, 1-0 CCAA) a 34-31 lead in the new quarter. The guests followed that with a 7-1 run to take a 38-35 lead on two made free throws by Sophie Northern with just 4:26 left in the third quarter. Sonoma State took a 44-39 lead on a jumper by Northern, but a jumper by Carbajal cut HSU's deficit to 44-41 heading into the final ten minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER: Sonoma State opened the final quarter taking a 47-41 lead in the first two minutes. An old-fashioned thre-point play by Thrower off a pass from
Sandin Kidder capped a 7-0 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 49-47 lead with 5:54 left in regulation. Sonoma State retook the lead on a three-point play by Kylie Kiech at the 3:01 mark of the quarter. The game went back and forth and was tied at 58-58 with 33 seconds to go on two made free throws by Kiech. Thrower was fouled on HSU's next possession and a Seawolf was called for a technical. Thrower made SSU pay as she made all free throws to give the hosts a 62-58 lead with just seven seconds left in the game. Kidder was fouled on the 'Jacks next possession as her two made free throws sealed the game for HSU, 64-58.
THROWER: Alexia Thrower scored a season high 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds n the 'Jack victory. She went 12-for-17 from the field and nine-for-ten from the line. She also had an assist and recorded three steals.
CARBAJAL: Gabrielle Carbajal tied her career high with 13 points. She also had two assists and two steals while grabbing three rebounds this evening.
19 TURNOVERS: HSU forced 19 turnovers by the Seawolves while recording ten steals. Six of htose steals came from
Alexia Thrower and
Tyra Turner.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will host Cal State LA this Saturday, November 23 at 5:30pm on Military Appreciation Night. The Golden Eagles lost 88-65 at Cal State East Bay this evening in Hayward.
