HAYWARD, Calif--- Five Humboldt State Lumberjacks scored in double digits paced by
Rob Lewis' 17 points but the Cal State East Bay Pioneers held off a late rally by the visitors in its 81-75 victory in Hayward. Also scoring in double digits for Humboldt State were
Leland Green with 16 followed by
Zachariah Christian's 15,
Isaiah Pope's 11 and
Isaiah Sampson with 10.
FIRST HALF: Humboldt State took a 6-0 lead after back to back three's by
Isaiah Sampson to open the game. The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 11-4 on a three by
Rob Lewis off a pass from
Leland Green just three minutes into the game. Cal State East Bay (9-3, 5-1 CCAA) went on a 9-2 run to take a 14-13 lead on a Kaito Williams' lay-up. A lay-up by
Arash Poorsina off a pass from
Jackson Strong gave HSU a 14-13 lead, but a three by Zafir Williams capped a 12-3 run by the Pioneers as they took a 25-17 lead. They increased their lead to 36-23 with just 2:47 left in the half. Humboldt State cut the deficit to 38-29 on a lay-up by
Zachariah Christian off a pass from
Isaiah Pope heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: A three by Trent Warren increased the hosts' lead to 51-38 just two and a half minutes into the second half. Cal State East Bay increased its lead to 54-38 on a three by Zafir Williams, but the Lumberjacks would not back down. Two made free throws by
Leland Green capped a 14-5 run by the 'Jacks as they cut the deficit to 59-52 with 9:39 on the clock. A lay-up by Josh Dhatt increased CSUEB's lead back to double-digits (64-54). Humboldt State cut its deficit to 73-68 on a three by
Zachariah Christian off a pass from Green with just 2:53 left in regulation. Back to back jumpers by Jesse Galloway and Dhatt gave the hosts a 77-68 lead with 1:49 to go, but HSU once again cut the deficit to five (78-73 on a dunk by
Rob Lewis. Two free throws gave the Pioneers an 80-73 lead with just 19 ticks on the clock. A lay-up by Green once again cut CSUEB's lead to 80-75. A free throw by Ant Navarrete sealed the 81-75 win by the Pioneers.
FIVE IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Humboldt State (6-5, 2-4 CCAA) had five players in double digits this afternoon paced by
Rob Lewis' 17 points.
Leland Green added 16 points while
Zachariah Christian chipped in 15 points and
Isaiah Sampson added 10 points.
Isaiah Pope added 11 points off the bench for the 'Jacks.
17 ASSISTS: The Lumberjacks had 17 assists on the afternoon led by
Leland Green's seven assists and just one turnover.
Zachariah Christian added four assists while three players had two assists each in
Rob Lewis,
Jackson Strong and
Isaiah Pope.
29-23: Humboldt State out-rebounded its opponents 29-25 led by
Rob Lewis and
Zachariah Christian each with five.
Leland Green and
Isaiah Sampson each had four while three players grabbed three each in
Jackson Strong,
Isaiah Pope and
Amari Green.
