Softball Drops Both Games to Conclude Series Versus Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Humboldt State softball finished day two of its series versus Sonoma State with a pair of losses Tuesday afternoon as the Jacks finished the four-game set with a 1-3 record.

The Seawolves took the first game 8-1, and the Jacks rallied late in the series finale before eventually falling 6-4. The results move HSU to 7-16 overall and 3-15 against California Collegiate Athletic Association opponents.

The Green and Gold got off to another quick start following an RBI single from Mariah Tovar to open the first before the Seawolves countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame. The Jacks totaled six hits and six walks but stranded 11 as they struggled to execute with runners in scoring position. Hanna Holland finished with a pair of singles and a double as she went 3-for-4 and scored the Jacks' lone run.

HSU struck first again in game two thanks to an RBI single from Holland in the top of the third, but a Lumberjack error in the next frame allowed two Sonoma State runs. Cassidy Romano hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth for her third homer on the year as the home team tacked on four more and led 6-2 at the end of six.

Danica Grier sent a base hit into left field which scored two and pulled the Jacks within striking distance, however, the Seawolves' Brielle Vidmar held on for her seventh win of the season. Mariah Kalamaras made the most of her start in right field as she went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.

The North Coast squad will experience a quick turnaround as they host Cal State East Bay in four-game series with the opener scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. at the HSU Softball Field.
