Stanislaus State Sweeps HSU Softball

TURLOCK, Calif. – Stanislaus State wrapped its four-game sweep of the Humboldt State softball team Friday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field. The Lumberjacks were blanked 6-0 in the first game and lost the series finale 4-1.

The North Coast team sank to 19-27 overall and 10-24 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

Not much went right for the Green and Gold in game one. Kylie Ragsdale set the tone by retiring the side in order in the first inning and scattered five hits in her complete game victory.

Rylie Carlier was the only Lumberjack to record a multi-hit performance in game one and the senior finished 2-for-3 at the dish. JoAna Mullins, Haley Suter and Mariah Tovar each notched a base hit versus Ragsdale, and Tovar tallied the Jacks lone extra-base hit.

Lexee Sheiring took the loss and allowed five runs, one earned, in 4.0 innings. Megan Holt entered the game in the fifth with runners at second and third base and no outs, but the freshman managed to escape the frame allowing just one unearned run.

A run in the first inning of the series finale wasn't enough to spark the Jacks' stagnant offense. Hanna Holland drew a leadoff walk before swiping second and third base. The senior scored on a well-executed squeeze play by catcher Micaela Harris to put the game's first run on the board.

The Warriors evened the score at 1-1 with a run on three hits off HSU's game two starter Jasmine Hill. Stanislaus State got to Hill again in the third as Desiree Gonzalez slapped an RBI double into the left centerfield gap. The home team tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth with a home run from Lia Tom to put the game out of reach.

Holland finished the game with three stolen bases, and the Jacks registered just four hits.

HSU hosts Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game homestand on Friday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
