Humboldt State To Begin CCAA Season At Home

ARCATA, Calif.---  After beginning the season with seven road matches, the Humboldt State's volleyball team will have three straight home matches this week at Lumberjack Arena.  The Lumberjacks will host Cal State Monterey Bay (September 18 at 7pm), Cal Poly Pomona (September 19 at 7pm) and No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino (September 21 st 7pm).

RECAP OF WEST REGION VOLLYEBALL SHOWCASE:  Humboldt State improved to 4-3 after going 2-2 in the West Region Volleyball Showcase that was hosted by San Francisco State University in San Francisco, Calif. 

The Lumberjacks started with a four-set loss to San Francisco State on Thursday afternoon (25-19, 16-25, 22-25, 21-25) despite Lenox Loving's 19 kills and 10 digs.  Riley Tishlarich had 30 assists for HSU with Odelia Ryan recording 16 digs.  HSU came back and lost in four sets to Cal State Dominguez Hills (22-25, 25-19, 14-25, 17-25) with Summer Hansen leading the way with 15 kills and Loving adding 19 digs.  Emma Flewell had six total blocks for the Lumberjacks. 

Humboldt State finished off its play in the West Region Volleyball Showcase with two straight wins beginning with a three-set win over Fresno Pacific (26-24, 29-27, 25-21) on Friday afternoon.  Loving led the way with 18 kills, 10 digs and three service aces while Tishlarich had 35 assists.  Ryan added 19 digs and Kayla Costelllo chipped in 10.  Flrewell added six blocks while Malia Coyle had four and Hannah Cantrell two.  The 'Jacks finished the showcase with a three-set win over Dominican on Friday afternoon (25-12, 25-17, 25-19) behind Loving's 15 kills and 13 digs while Ryan chipped in 17 digs.  Tishlarich had 31 assists and 12 digs and Carla Crespo had five service aces.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE PERFORMANCES:  Four Lumberjacks have recorded double-double performances this season in either kills and digs or assists and digs.  Lenox Loving leads the way with three versus San Francisco State (19 kills, 10 digs), Fresno Pacific (18 kills, 10 digs) and Dominican (15 kills, 13 digs).  Lexi Riggs has two double-doubles versus Academy of Art (11 kills, 10 digs) and Notre Dame de Namur (21 kills, 20 digs).  Riley TIshlarich and Juliana Bertolucci each have one.  Tishlarich versus Dominican (31 assists, 12 digs) and Bertolucci versus Notre Dame de Namur (35 assists, 12 digs).

LUMBERJACK LEADERS: Summer Hansen has 75 kills to lead HSU followed by Lenox Loving's 60.  Riley Tishlarich leads the 'Jacks with 124 assists followed by Juliana Bertolucci with 113.  Carla Crespo has a team high 16 service aces while Odelia Ryan has a team leading 110 digs.  Emma Flewell leads HSU with her 27 total blocks with Malia Coyle with 15, Hannah Cantrell with 13 and Hansen with 10. 

TAILGATE PARTY:  Humboldt State University Housing & Residence Life will be hosting a Tailgate Party in Redwood Plaza from 5-7pm prior to the Lumberjacks' volleyball team's match versus Cal State Monterey Bay this Wednesday, September 18.

HOME OPENER:  HSU's home opener will be this Wednesday, September 18 versus Cal State Monterey Bay at 7pm in Lumberjack Arena.

CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY:  The Otters are 4-3 after going 2-2 in the West Region Volleyball Showcase in Pomona, Calif., this past weekend.  Cal State Monterey Bay begin the showcase with a three-set loss to No. 3 Western Washington, but swept Seattle Pacific in three. The Otters finished the showcase with a four-set win over Hawai'i-Hilo and a four-set loss to Chaminade. 

They are led by Jenna Tobin's 19 kills and 11 service aces while Kaylie Honberger has 63 kills.  Sophia Torres has a team high 227 assists and Madi Lombard has 106 digs.  Leading HSU in blocks is Hannah Haveman with 25 followed by Mollin Helfrich with 19. 

CSUMB leads the all-time series with the Lumberjacks 16-9 and the Otters have won the last four meetings between the two teams.  The last Lumberjack win was a five-set win in Arcata, Calif., on November 12, 2016.

CAL POLY POMONA:  The Broncos are 2-5 after going 0-4 in the West Region Volleyball Showcase in Pomona over the weekend.  Cal Poly Pomona lost in five to Seattle Pacific, three to No. 3 Western Washington, three to Chaminade and three to Hawai'i-Hilo. 

CPP is led by Jazmin Parrish's 97 kills followed by Ally Wilder's 72.  Kira Zimmerman leads CPP with her 236 assists, 15 total blocks and nine service aces while Mikayla Diamond has a team leading 69 digs.

The Broncos lead the all-time series with Humboldt State 19-4 with CPP winning the last three matches in a row.  The last Lumberjack win was a three-set win in Pomona on September 16,
2016.

NO. 2 CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO:  The nationally ranked Coyotes are 7-0 after going 4-0 in the West Region Volleyball Showcase in San Bernardino this past weekend.  The Coyotes defeated Simon Fraser in three, Alaska Anchorage in three, Biola in four and Point Loma in three. 

They are led by Alexis Cordoza's 100 kills and 82 digs while Lellia To'omalatai has 80 digs.  Marlee Nunley has 142 assists with Asia Clarke recording 10 service aces.  Leading the way with
her 21 total blocks is Sascha Dominique. 

Cal State San Bernardino leads the all-time series with the Lumberjacks 21-1.  Humboldt State defeated the Coyotes on October 1, 2014 in four in Arcata.

BACK ON THE ROAD FOR THREE STRAIGHT: After Saturday's match versus No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino, Humboldt State will be back on the road for three straight CCAA matches.  The road trip will begin on September 28 at Sonoma State (7pm).  It will continue on October 4 at Stanislaus (5pm) and October 5 at Chico State (5pm).  HSU will return home for a pair home matches on October 10 vs. Cal State East Bay (5pm) and October 12 vs. San Francisco State (7pm).
