ARCATA, Calif.--- Humboldt State's men's soccer team will begin the 2019 season with a pair of non-conference region matches in San Rafael, Calif., against two teams from the PacWest Conference. The Lumberjacks will face Dominican of California this Fri., Sept. 6 at noon in San Rafael. They will stay in San Rafael as the 'Jacks face Holy Names at 11am on Sun., Sept. 8.
LUMBERJACKS: Humboldt State went 7-8-1 overall and 3-7-2 in the CCAA last season. The 'Jacks return three All-CCAA honorees in
Gus Baxter,
Ethan Waters and
Martin Calderon. Baxter scored seven goals and recorded three assists as he was named to the Second Team All-CCAA. Waters saw action in 13 matches and had 10 starts at the midfield position. Calderon started all 17 matches for the 'Jacks and had an assist in 1570 minutes on the pitch. Both Waters and Calderon were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
HSU's defense allowed 1.65 goals a game last season while the offense scored 1.47 goals a game. Head Coach

Isaiah Dairo who scored four goals including two game-winners for the 'Jacks in his junior season.
DOMINICAN: The Penguins went 5-11-2 overall and 2-8-1 in the PacWest in 2018. Dominican returns Luke Raley with his three goals and two assists while Greg Natt scored two goals and assisted on two goals. Dominican lost All-PacWest honoree Wilson Briggs who scored 15 goals including two game-winning goals in 2018 for the Penguins.
Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Penguins 2-1. The 'Jacks won the first two meetings 1-0 in Arcata on Oct. 25, 2011 and 3-2 in San Rafael on Sept. 9, 2013. Dominican won the meeting last season on Sept. 1, 2018 in San Rafael 2-1
HOLY NAMES: The Hawks went 4-13-1 overall and 3-8 in the PacWest during the 2018 season. Holy Names returns Josiah Romero who scored five goals and had an assist in 12 matches. Also back is Mariano Alstorre with his three goals of which two were game-winners.
The 'Jacks lead the all-time series 4-0 including winning 2-0 last season in Arcata on August 30. They also won 2-1 in Sept. 10, 2017 in San Francisco and 1-0 on Sept. 10, 2015 in Oakland. HSU won the first meeting 2-1 on Sept. 18, 2014.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will return to the pitch on Sept. 13 and 15 in Billings, Mont., when the 'Jacks face Montana State Billings and the University of Mary. The 'Jacks last non-conference match will be on Sept. 22 at Simpson. Their home opener will also be their CCAA opener when they face SF State.
