‘Jacks Fall To Hawks In 3-2 Nailbiter

SAN RAFAEL Calif. ---  The Holy Names University Hawks' JR Gutierrez connected on a penalty kick with three minutes left in regulation to give the Hawks a 3-2 win over the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in a non-conference match-up in San Rafael, Calif., this afternoon.  Marco Silveira scored the 'Jacks' first goals and assisted on the second goal by Isaiah Dairo for HSU.

FIRST HALF:  Humboldt State (1-1) took the 1-0 lead on Marco Silveira's first goal of the season off a ball from Devin Hauenstein in the ninth minute of the match.  Robert Quintero stopped Holy Names' first shot on goal attempt by Edwin Michel Hernandez thirty seconds later.  The Hawks (1-1) had another chance to tie the match in the 33rd minute when Quintero came up with another save this time off the foot of Josiah Romero.  HNU had another chance in the 39th minute to tie the match at 1-1 when the 'Jack defense stopped Noel Rosales' attempt.

SECOND HALF:  Thirteen minutes into the second half, Quintero made another save this time off the foot of Fernando Ortiz.  The Hawks tied the match at 1-1 in the 66th minute on a goal by Noel Rosales off an assist from Bryan Canchola.  Holy Names took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Josiah Romero on another assist from Canchola in the 68th minute. HNU didn't have the lead for long as Isaiah Dairo scored the tying goal, his second of the season, off a ball from Silveira in the 75th minute.  The match remained tied at 2-2 until the 87th minute when JR Gutierrez Ramon connected on a penalty kick to give HNU what proved to be the game-winning goal.

SAVES:  Robert Quintero had seven saves in goal for HSU while Mark Redfield had just one in goal for Holy Names.

UP NEXT:  Humboldt State returns to the pitch in Billings, Mont., this Sept. 13 at 3pm (MT) when they face Montana State Billings out of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  The 'Jacks will face the University of Mary on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1pm (MT) in their second game in Billings.  Their final non-conference game will be on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12pm at Simpson.  They will have their home and CCAA opener on Wed., Sept. 25 at 3pm when the 'Jacks host SF State.
