Alexia Thrower's double-double performance of 23 points and 16 rebounds, Humboldt State lost 59-56 in overtime to No. 23 Cal State San Marcos.
Tyra Turner chipped in 12 points and six assists for the 'Jacks, who will host UC San Diego this Saturday at 5:30pm.
FIRST QUARTER: The first ten minutes went back and forth until two made free throws by
Tyra Turner gave Humboldt State an 11-10 lead at the 4:15 mark. A lay-up by Emma Forel off a pass from Kelsey Forrester gave Cal State San Marcos (12-2, 7-2 CCAA) a 12-11 lead heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: Humboldt State (9-5, 5-4 CCAA) opened up the second quarter outscoring the Cougars 10-5 in the first six minutes to take a 21-15 lead on a
Sandin Kidder lay-up. The Cougars cut the deficit to 23-22 on a lay-up by Chloe Eackels with 78 seconds left in the half. A lay-up by
Alexia Thrower increased the hosts' lead to 25-22, but a jumper by Dynnnah Buckner cut the 'Jack lead to 25-24 heading into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER: The Lumberjacks took a 33-28 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter on a lay-up by
Alexia Thrower. They increased their lead to 38-30 on a free throw by
Gabrielle Carbajal heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: A three by
Alexia Thrower off a pass from
Tyra Turner increased HSU's lead to 41-32 a minute into the final ten minutes of regulation. A three by Ayala Hackson cut HSU's lead to 45-43 with just 3:05 left in regulation. An old-fashioned three-point lead gave the Cougars a 46-45 lead with just 54 ticks left on the clock. The Cougars took a 49-47 lead, but a jumper by
Tyra Turner sent the game into overtime.
OVERTIME: The first four minutes of the overtime went back and forth until a jumper by Stephanie Custodio gave the visitors a 55-52 lead with 68 seconds left in the overtime. A lay-up by
Alexia Thrower off a pass from
Molly Dixon cut the Cougar lead to 58-57 with 37 seconds on the clock. A jumper by Emma Forel sealed the game for the visitors as they took the 58-56 road conference win.
NUMBER SEVEN: Alexia Thrower recorded her seventh double-double this evening with her 23-point and 16-rebound performance. She went eight for 16 from the field including two-from-three from three's and five-fo-six from the line. She also had four steals for the 'Jacks.
INCHING CLOSER: With her 12 points and six assists this evening, Tyra Tuner has scored 976 points and dished out 451 assists in her career. She also has 204 steals during her career as a Lumberjacks.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will conclude its three-game home stand this Saturday, January 11 at 5:30pm when the Lumberjacks host UC San Diego. The Tritons defeated Stanislaus State 76-56 this evening in Turlock.
