TURLOCK, Calif..--- Leland Green scored a game high 30 points including 18 points in the first half to key the Humboldt State Lumberjacks' 79-64 road win over the Stanislaus State Warriors. Green went 10-for-15 from the field including six-for-nine from three-point land. Also scoring in double digits for the 'Jacks were
Rob Lewis with 16 points while
Isaiah Pope chipped in 10 points for the victors.
FIRST HALF: Humboldt State jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game including eight points by
Leland Green. A three by Green capped a 10-2 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 26-4 lead with 13:12 left in the first half. An
Arash Poorsina lay-up gave HSU a 31-8 lead mid-way through the half. a three by Luis Salgado cut the 'Jack lead to 34-21 with just five minutes left in the half.
Rob Lewis' free throw increased HSU's lead to 41-22 with 1:51 left in the first half, but a jumper by Darius Scott cut the Lumberjack lead to 41-24 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: A lay-up by
Rob Lewis off a pass from
Jackson Strong increased the 'Jack lead to 48-26 three minutes into the new half. A three by
Amari Green off a pass from
Isaiah Pope with 11:36 on the clock gave HSU a 59-33 lead. A jumper by
Amari Green increased the 'Jack lead to 64-37, but the Warriors didn't go away. The hosts went on a 21-2 run to cut the visitor lead to 66-58 with just 3:42 to go in regulation. A three by
Isaiah Pope off a pass from
Zachariah Christian increased HSU's lead back to double digits (69-58). A three by Vida Faniel cut HSU's lead to 68-61 with three minutes left, but the visitors went on a 11-0 run in the next three minutes to take a 79-61. A free throw by Ty Davis made the final 79-64 Lumberjacks.
LELAND: Leland Green recorded his second 30-point game this evening by scoring 30 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field and connecting on six of his nine attempts from beyond the arc. He also made four free throws while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists.
12 FROM BEYOND THE ARC: The Lumberjacks went 12-for-25 from beyond the arc including
Leland Green going six-for-nine this evening.
Isaiah Pope and
Jackson Strong each made two treys while
Rob Lewis and
Amari Green connected on one.
STRONG MOVING UP THE LADDER: With his two made three-point field goals this evening,
Jackson Strong has made 170 in his career and 81 this season. The 170 places him fifth on HSU all-time career list and the 81 this season is fourth. He is three from moving past Grayson Moyer into fourth on the career list and four moving past Austin Bryan into third on the single season list. The 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-District Eight Honoree is already second with his 89 made from last season.
ONCE AGAIN: HSU had three players score in double digits once again this season. This time,
Leland Green paced HSU with 30 points followed by
Rob Lewis' 16 points and
Isaiah Pope's 10 points.
