ARCATA, Calif..--- The visiting Sonoma State Seawolves took the first two of this weekend's four-game series with the Humboldt State Lumberjacks 12-3 (5) and 10-2 this afternoon at HSU's Softball Field. In game one,
Micaela Harris had a three-run home run for Lumberjacks' runs. Then in the nightcap,
Lauren Lipe had a two-run double for the 'Jacks.
GAME ONE: After a scoreless first inning, Sonoma State (9-7, 6-4 CCAA) took a 5-0 lead after its half of the second inning. Nicole Renner's one-out two-run home run started the scoring for the Seawolves. They increased their lead to 12-0 with a seven-run third inning capped by a two-run home run by Giana Hays. Humboldt State cut into the Seawolf lead on
Micaela Harris' three-run home run (her first of the season), in the Lumberjacks' half of the third inning. Sonoma State held the 'Jacks scoreless in the final two innings as the visitors took a 12-3 five inning victory.
GAME ONE LEADERS: Mariah Tovar had two of HSU's five hits while
Micaela Harris drove in all three runs with her first home run of the season.
Taylor Culp (1-4) recorded the loss in the start for the 'Jacks. Teri Danenberg (3-2) recorded the win in the start for Sonoma State. Cassidy Romano drove in four runs while Nicole Renner and Giana Hays each drove in two runs for the guests.
GAME TWO: Starting pitchers
Megan Holt and Nicole Sarra held the batters scoreless for the first two innings. The Seawolves took a 1-0 lead on a one-out double by Julie Davis which scored
Amber Orchard to give SSU the early lead. Sonoma State increased its lead to 6-0 with a five-run fourth inning. The Seawolves added an insurance run on a solo home run by Bella Chadwell in the top of the fourth inning. Sonoma State took a 10-0 lead with a three-run seventh inning. Humboldt State (4-13, 3-11 CCAA) didn't go away easy. In its half of the seventh, the Lumberjacks'
Lauren Lipe had a two-out two run double which scored
Mariah Kalamaras and
Adriana Chavez to make the final 10-2.
