ARCATA, Calif.--- Jackson Strong tied a school record with his ten three-point field goals made en route to a game high 31 points to lead the way for the Humboldt State Lumberjacks. Despite Strong's performance, the Lumberjacks fell 81-67 to the Cal Poiy Pomona Broncos (16-5, 12-4 CCAA).
FIRST HALF: The first seven minutes of the game went back and forth until the Broncos took a 14-11 lead on a three by Mason Dickerson. A three by
Jackson Strong capped a 12-6 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 23-20 lead with nine minutes left in the half. A three by
Deion Alston off a pass from
Zachariah Christian increased Humboldt State's lead to 27-23 with six minutes left in the first stanza. A three by Christian gave HSU a 33-27 lead off pass from
Leland Green. Cal Poly Pomona went on a 14-5 run capped by a three by Riley Schaefer as the Broncos took a 45-38 lead with just 35 ticks on the clock. Two made free throws by
Rob Lewis cut the deficit to 41-40 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: Cal Poly Pomona took a 54-49 lead six minutes into the second half on a jumper by William Christmas. The Broncos took a 60-49 lead on a jumper by Riley Schaefer with 12:27 on the clock. A lay-up by Christmas gave CPP a 67-60 lead, but another three by
Jackson Strong cut the deficit to 69-58 with 5:50 on the clock for Humboldt State (8-14, 4-13 CCAA). A Justin Young dunk capped a 10-2 run by the Broncos as they took a 79-60 lead with just three minutes left in regulation. An old-fashioned three-point play by
Amari Green made the final 81-67 as the 'Jacks finished the game on a 7-2 run.
TYING THE SCHOOL RECORD: Jackson Strong tied Isaac Gildea's school record of 10 three's made in a game this evening as he went 10-for-17 from beyond the arc. Strong scored 31 points to go with his one blocked shot and one steal. For his career, Strong he has made 165 treys which places him seventh on HSU's career list just four from moving past Will Sheufelt into sixth place.
BLOCK THAT SHOT: Humboldt State had four blocked shots this evening paced by
Zachariah Christian's two.
Jackson Strong had one as did
Noah Viera.
14 FOR 33: The 'Jacks went 14-for-33 from beyond the arc paced by
Jackson Strong's 10-for-17 performance. Also connecting on a trey were
Zachariah Christian,
Rob Lewis,
Isaiah Pope and
Deion Alston.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will host Cal State San Bernardino this Saturday at 7:30pm. The Coyotes defeated Stanislaus State 78-70 in Turlock this evening.
