ARCATA, Calif.--- The No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes (19-4, 14-3 CCAA) outscored the hosts Humboldt State Lumberjacks 54-42 in the second half to propel them to a 94-72 victory.
Zachariah Christian paced the 'Jacks with 18 points while
Isaiah Pope chipped in 16 points while
Amari Green added 12 points and
Rob Lewis scored 10 points.
FIRST HALF: Back to back three's by
Jackson Strong and
Zachariah Christian gave Humboldt State and early 6-0. The Coyotes outscored the 'Jacks 19-11 in the next nine minutes to take a 19-17 lead on a lay-up by Jordan Mitchell. Cal State San Bernardino (19-3, 14-3 CCAA) increased its lead to 24-17 with eight minutes left in the first half. Christian's two free throws but the deficit to 24-19, but the Coyotes increased their lead to 37-26. Four straight points by
Rob Lewis cut the Coyote lead to 37-30, but the Coyotes' Richard Laku hit a three to give the guests a 40-30 lead heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: Cal State San Bernardino took a 43-30 lead on an Andrew Villa lay-up to begin the second half. Humboldt State (8-15, 4-14 CCAA) cut the lead to single digits, 42-33, on three straight points by
Zachariah Christian. Cal State San Bernardino outscored the 'Jacks 11-4 to take a 53-37 and never looked back as the guests took a 94-72 victory.
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Once again, the Lumberjacks had multiple players score in double digits paced by
Zachariah Christian's 18 points.
Isaiah Pope added 16 points while
Amari Green chipped in 12 points while
Rob Lewis scored 10 points.
MORE A'S THAN T'S: Humboldt State dished out 16 assists with just 13 turnovers paced by
Amari Green's four assists and no turnovers.
Isaiah Pope added four assists while
Rob Lewis had three and
Leland Green. Three players had on assist in
Zachariah Christian,
Jackson Strong and
Deion Alston.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will now begin a three-game road trip commencing with two games in the Bay Area next weekend. HSU will be at SF State on February 13 and Sonoma State on February 15.
