SAN MARCOS, Calif.--- The visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks split their weekend series with Cal State San Marcos after splitting this afternoon's doubleheader with the Cougars winning the opener 8-4, but dropping the night cap 6-2.
Lexee Sheiring picked up the win in relief in the opener for HSU while
Lauren Lipe went two-for-three and drove in a run while scoring twice. In the night cap, the Cougars picked up the 6-2 win.
Micaela Harris had two of HSU's four hits.
GAME ONE: Humboldt State (3-4, 2-2 CCAA) took an 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Lauren Lipe had a lead-off single and later scored on a ground out by
Danica Grier. Cal State San Marcos scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Lumberjacks tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when
Haley Suter walked to bring in
Jenna Sobrero with the tying run. The Cougars retook the lead in their half of the fifth. Humboldt State scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning when the 'Jacks took advantage of two errors by the Cougars to take a 6-3 lead.
The 'Jacks added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Mariah Kalamaras had a run scoring double which brought in
Micaela Harris.
Jacci Crowe pinch ran for Kalamaras and scored on a single by
Chloe Koll. The Cougars cut the 'Jack lead to 8-4 with a run in the seventh inning, but that was the closest they would get as the visitors took the 8-4 game one victory.
LEADERS: Lauren Lipe had two of the Lumberjacks' eight hits. She also scored two of HSU's eight runs. Emily Paredez paced CSUSM with two hits.
Lexee Sheiring (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Lumberjacks pitching three innings, giving up one hit and a run while striking out two and walking two. Jamie Ponce recorded the loss for CSUSM.
GAME TWO: Cal State San Marcos (4-5, 2-2 CCAA) scored three runs in its half of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Cougars increased their lead to 5-0 with a two-run fourth. They added another run in the fifth. Humboldt State cut the Cougar lead to 7-2 with a two-run in the sixth.

Micaela Harris but that is the closest HSU would get as the hosts took the night cap 6-2.
LEADERS: Humboldt State was paced by
Micaela Harris' two hits while
Megan Holt (2-2) suffered the loss for HSU.
Megan Escobar pitched four innings of relief, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out two. Niki Andelin had two of the Cougars' eight hits while Bianca Gutierrez drove in two of CSUSM's six runs. Jamie Ponce picked up the win for the Cougars.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will continue its season beginning road trip with a four-game series in Seaside, Calif., against Cal State Monterey Bay on February 14-15.
