Lumberjacks To Travel to Bay Area For Four-Game Series with Cal State East Bay

ARCATA, Calif.---  After being home for the past two weekends, Humboldt State's softball team will travel to the Bay Area for a four-game conference series with Cal State East Bay.  The two teams will play a noon starting doubleheader this Friday, March 6. The series will conclude this Saturday, March 7 with an 11am starting doubleheader.  All four games will take place at Pioneer Field on the campus of Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif.
 
RECAP OF THIS PAST WEEKEND'S SERIES WITH SONOMA STATE:  Humboldt State hit .320 as a team in its four-game series with Sonoma State this past weekend including hitting five home runs (two by Danica Grier and one each by Micaela Harris, Haley Suter and Mariah Tovar).  Grier drove in five runs while Lauren Lipe scored four runs.  Lipe and Tovar paced HSU with their seven hits.  Grier and Lipe each had a double.  The Lumberjacks are now 4-15 overall and 3-17 in the CCAA. 
 
In game one on Friday, HSU lost 12-3 in five innings despite Harris hitting a three-run home run.  Mariah Tovar had two of HSU's five hits in the series opener.  In the night cap on Friday, HSU lost 10-2 in seven innings.  Lipe drove in both of the Lumberjacks' two runs with a double in the seventh inning. 
 
Then on Saturday, Humboldt State lost the opener 12-3 in five innings.  Tovar had a solo home run while Harris and Lipe each had two hits.  In the series finale, HSU lost 15-12 with Grier going three-for-four with five runs batted in, two runs scored and two home runs.  Lipe had four hits while Tovar had three hits and Adriana Chavez had two.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State is 4-15 overall and 3-13 in the CCAA heading into this four-game series with Cal State East Bay.  The 'Jacks are hitting .294 as a team with three players hitting over .275 in Danica Grier (.375), Micaela Harris (.357), Lauren Lipe (.333), Mariah Tovar (.326), Mariah Kalamaras (.308) and Haley Suter (.288).  HSU has hit 11 home runs with Suter and Grier each with three while Katelyn Dendas and Tovar each have two.  Grier leads the team with her 18 runs batted in along with her .571 slugging and .486 on-base percentage.  Harris has scored a team high 18 runs and stole a team high 14 bases while leading the team with her two triples.  Tovar and Kalamaras are tied for the team lead each with three doubles.  Taylor Culp leads the pitching staff with 17 strikeouts while Megan Holt has two of HSU's four wins in the circle.
 
UPDATE ON THE PIONEERS:  Cal State East Bay is 7-16 overall and 5-11 in the CCAA heading into its four-game series with Humboldt State.  The Pioneers are batting .231 as a team with two players hitting over .300 in Sarah Fukushima (.364) and Jennifer Palamares (.314).  Maddie Ramirez leads CSUEB with her nine runs batted in while Palamares and Emilie Portesi are tied for the team lead each with eight runs scored.  Fukushiima leads the Pioneers with her seven doubles while Portesi has stolen a team high eight bases.  Abby Greer leads the pitching staff with her 3.29 earned run average, five wins and 35 strikeouts. 
 
STEALING THOSE BASES: As a team, Humboldt State is 27 for 32 in stolen base attempts with Micaela Harris leading the way going 14-for-14.  Lauren Lipe is five-for-five while Danica Grier is three-for-three.  Haley Suter is two-for-two and Izzy Starr is one-for-one.  Adriana Chavez has HSU's other two stolen bases in her three attempts.
 
BOMBS AWAY: Humboldt State has hit 11 home runs this season with two players leading the way each with three in Danica Grier and Haley SuterKatelyn Dendas and Mariah Tovar each have hit two home runs while Michaela Harris has hit one.
 
DOUBLE DIGITS:  Four players have double digits this season in runs batted in in Danica Grier, Haley Suter, Mariah Kalamaras and Micaela Harris.  Grier leads the way with 18 followed by Suter's 17 and Kalamaras and Harris each with 12.
