TURLOCK, Calif--- With less than 25 minutes remaining in regulation, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks (7-2-2, 1-2-2 CCAA) scored two unanswered goals to defeat the Stanislaus State Warriors 2-1 this evening at Warrior Stadium in Turlock.
Yushi Kato scored the tying goal in the 67
th minute and then in the 71
st minute,
Ramiro Rosas connected on a free kick for the game-winner in the 71
st minute.
Adrian Gallardo had five saves in goal for the 'Jacks.
FIRST HALF: Stanislaus State (5-6-1, 1-4 CCAA) had the match's first chance to take the lead in the 12
th when
Adrian Gallardo recorded the first of his five saves of the night stopping Finn Hoffman's shot on goal attempt. Just two minutes later, the Warriors took the 1-0 lead on a goal by Dayne Sturtevant off a ball from Julian Madrigal and Adrian Yepez. The hosts had two chances late in the half to double its lead but both shots went wide including one by Josh Santillan with three minutes left as they took a 1-0 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: The 'Jacks came out strong in the second half as
Edgar Castaneda recorded their first shot on goal attempt which was stopped by the Warriors' Jesus Nunez in the 48
th minute. One minute later,
Marco Silveira had a chance for the tying goal but once again Nunez stopped HSU's shot on goal attempt. Gallardo recorded another save in the 49
th minute for the 'Jacks, this time off the foot of Finn Hoffman. The score remained 1-0 hosts until the 67
th minute when
Yushi Kato connected on the game-tying goal for the 'Jacks. Three minutes later, the Warriors were called for a foul outside the box and
Ramiro Rosas made them pay as he scored what proved to be the game-winner for the visitors. Gallardo made another save in the 73
rd minute as he stopped Julian Madrigal's shot attempt to tie the game for Stanislaus State. With just eight minutes, Gallardo made the first of two huge saves late. The first one he stopped was Alexis Salcedo's free kick. At the 89:18 mark on the clock, Gallardo stopped another Stanislaus State this time off the foot of Madrigal. The Warriors had one chance with just 22 seconds left in regulation but Alexis Saucedo's shot sailed over the net as the 'Jacks took the 2-1 come-from-behind win.
FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL: Ramiro Rosas connected on his first game-winning goal and his first goal in the 71
st minute off a free kick. Earlier in the season, Rosas recorded his first assist on a goal by
Marco Silveira in the 69
th minute in a 1-0 win over Simpson University.
GALLARDO: For the second straight match,
Adrian Gallardo came up huge in goal for the 'Jacks. This evening he recorded five saves in goal including two key saves off of free kicks in the final minutes of the match. For the season, Gallardo has a 0.57 goals against average with 42 saves and a .875 saves percentage.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will return home to College Creek Field this Sunday, October 17 at 2pm, when the 'Jacks host Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers lost 2-0 to Chico State this evening in Hayward.
