ARCATA, Calif--- The Humboldt State Lumberjacks battled with the No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (15-3, 8-3 CCAA) this evening in a CCAA match-up at Lumberjack Arena. The Broncos came on top in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-22) to defeat the hosts. They were led by Jazminn Parrish and Daisy Duke each with 12 kills.
Lindsey McLaughlin had nine kills while
Hannah Cantrell had seven to lead the way for the 'Jacks.
FIRST SET: Kaitlyn Patterson's service ace gave the 'Jacks an early 5-4 lead in the first set. The Broncos came right back and took a 12-10 lead. The visitors increased their lead to 17-14, but the 'Jacks would not go way. The hosts cut the Bronco lead to 22-20 on a kill by
Elyse McKinney off an assist from
Riley White. Cal Poly Pomona took a 24-20 lead and finished out the set on a kill by Daisy Duke to take the set 25-21.
SECOND SET: A service ace by Madison Novak gave the Broncos a 10-5 lead in the second set. They increased that lead to 19-7 on back to back hitting errors by the Lumberjacks. Another Daisy Duke kill increased CPP's lead to 20-9. Humboldt State (3-11, 2-9 CCAA) cut the Bronco lead to 22-11 on a kill by
Lindsey McLaughlin, but the Broncos finished the set off scoring the final three points taking it 25-11. With the set two win, Cal Poly Pomona took a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: Humboldt State scored the first three points off the third set keyed by back to back kills by
Hannah Cantrell and
Malia Coyle. The Broncos battled back and tied the set at 12-12 on a kill by Daisy Duke. A kill by
Lindsey McLaughlin off an assist from
Carla Crespo made it HSU 19-16. Hsu had a 22-19 lead on a kill by Coyle off a pass from
Riley Tishlarich. The Broncos called a timeout and scored the final six points off the set to take the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
LEADERS: Lindsey McLaughlin had nine kills and
Hannah Cantrell added seven kills for the 'Jacks.
Nicole Yakushenok had 10 assists while
Kaitlyn Patterson recorded two service aces.
Carla Crespo added 13 digs and Cantrell had three total blocks.

UP NEXT: Humboldt State will end its homestand on Saturday, October 23 at 7pm, when the 'Jacks host No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino. The will be the Lumberjacks' Dig Pink Match in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Match. The Coyotes will play at Sonoma State tomorrow evening.
