POMONA, Calif--- Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (10-2-3, 7-0-2 CCAA) scored two late unanswered goals to key their 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks.
Alex Lopez scored in the eighth minute to give HSU a 1-0 lead off a free kick from
Dylan Tovani. The Broncos tied the game in the 79
th minute on a goal from Jerry Ramirez and won the game in the 81
st minute on a goal by Eduardo Faria.
FIRST HALF: Humboldt State (10-3-2, 4-3-2 CCAA) had a chance for the early lead when
Marco Silveira's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Broncos' Jason Aldama just 75 seconds into the match. Cal Poly Pomona, who was receiving votes in the most recent national poll., had a chance in the third minute to take the lead but Jerry Ramirez's shot was stopped by the Lum erjacks' Adrian Galllardo. The guests took the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal by
Alex Lopez off a free kick from
Dylan Tovani. Gallardo recorded another save in the 12
th minute when he stopped Chrisitian Miarmontes' shot on goal attempt. Humboldt State had a chance to double its lead in the 23
rd minute when Aldama made another save to send the game into the half with HSU leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The Lumberjacks had a chance to double their lead in the 77
th minute when
Yushi Katos's shot was stopped by Aldama. Cal Poly Pomona tied the match at 1-1 in the 77
th minute on a goal by Jerry Ramirez on a ball from Christian Miramontes. The Broncos took the lead two minutes later on a goal by Eduardo Faria off a ball from Cesar Ruvalcaba. Cal Poly Pomona had a chance to increase its lead, but Paul Henschke's shot was snared by Gallardo in the 89
th minute.
NUMBER FOUR: Alex Lopez scored his fourth goal of the season off of
Dylan Tovani's second assist of the season.
#5: After this evening, HSU is in fifth place just four points out of fourth place in the CCAA Standings.
