SAN FRANCISCO, Calif--- San Francisco State Gators swept the season series from the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks with a three-set win (25-10, 25-12, 25-16) win this evening in a CCAA match-up at The Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza in San Francisco, Calif.
Hannah Cantrell and
Lindsey McLaughlin led the way for HSU with combined 13 kills.
FIRST SET: San Francisco State (18-3, 11-3 CCAA) scored the match's first four points before
Hannah Cantrell's kills stopped the Gator rally. The hosts increased their lead to 11-4 as they scored three straight points. The Gators took a 19-7 lead when they recorded six straight points. A kill by
Lindsey McLaughlin cut the deficit to 22-10, but SFSU finished off the set with three straight points taking it 25-10.
SECOND SET: The second set went back and forth until the Gators took a 11-3 lead. They increased their lead to 15-4, but a
Hannah Cantrell kill off a pass from
Riley Tishlarich stopped SF State's rally. A Marlena Billings' service ace increased the hosts' lead to 21-9. A combined block by
Jasmine McNeal and
Elyse McKinney cut the deficit to 21-11, but SFSU finished off the set taking four of the final five points to take the set 25-12 and increase its lead in the match to 2-0.
THIRD SET: SF State came out strong in the third set taking a 11-5 lead capped by back to back kills by Drew Morris and Trinity Barr. Humboldt State (3-14, 2-12 CCAA) cut the Gator lead to 11-7 on a kill from
Hannah Cantrell off a pass from
Riley White and a service ace by
Gianna Giacomotto. SF State then scored six of the next eight points to increase its lead to 17-9. A kill by
Anna Hospodar off an assist from
Nicole Yakushenok cut the deficit to 17-11, but SF State scored the next three points to take a 20-11 lead. HSU scored the next two points capped by a
Carla Crespo service ace. HSU three times cut the deficit to eight including 25-16 on a kill by Yakushenok off a pass from White, but SFSU finished the match off on a kill by Chloe Henning (25-16 and 3-0).
LEADERS: Hannah Cantrell finished the weekend recording 20 kills including eight tonight.
Lindsey McLaughlin added five kills while
Jasmine McNeal recorded two blocks.
Nicole Yakushenok had 10 assists and
Carla Crespo had eight digs and
Gianna Giacomotto had two service aces.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State continues its four-match road trip with a pair of matches in the Central Valley next weekend. The 'Jacks will be in Chico, Calif., for a 5pm match-up on Friday, November 5 with Chico State. They will end the road trip with a 5pm match on Saturday, November 6 with Stanislaus State in Turlock, Calif. HSU will finish off its regular season with a pair of home matches on Nov. 11 (vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5pm) and Nov. 13 (vs. Cal State Los Angeles at 3pm).
