Chico State Defeats ‘Jacks in Three

CHICO, Calif---   Humboldt State fell in three sets (13-25, 14-25, 9-25) to the hosts Chico State Wildcats this evening at Art Acker Gymnasium in Chico, Calif.   Makaela Keeve paced the Wildcats with 10 kills while Lindsey McLaughlin had six and Malia Coyle recorded four for the 'Jacks.  Riley White added eight assists and Coyle also recorded two blocks for HSU.
 
FIRST SET:  Chico State (9-14, 5-10 CCAA) took a 9-3 lead in the first set.  The Wildcats increased their lead to 12-5 on back to back kills by Lizzie Wilson.  The 'Jacks cut the deficit to 16-9 on back to back kills by Anna Hospodar and Lindsey McLaughlin.  The Wildcats increased lead to 20-10 on a kill by Zoe DiNardo.  Chico State scored five of the final eight points of the set to take the first set 25-13.
 
SECOND SET:  A kill by Lindsey McLaughlin off an assist from Riley White gave the 'Jacks a 3-1 lead in the second set.  The Wildcats recorded five of the next seven points to take a 6-5 lead.  The 'Jacks tied the match at 7-7, but Chico State a Brooke Ono's service ace gave the Wildcats a 17-11 lead.  A block by Malia Coyle cut the Wildcat lead to 19-14.  Chico State finished off the set taking the set taking the final six points of the set, 25-14. The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
THIRD SET:  The hosts took a 6-2 lead in the third set.  A kill by Lizzie Wilson increased their lead to 12-4.  They increased their lead to 21-11.  After HSU cut the deficit to 21-12, but the Wildcats took the four of the final five points to take the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
 
LEADERS:  Lindsey McLaughlin had a team high six kills while Malia Coyle recorded four.  Nicole Yakushenok and Gianna GIacomotto each had a service ace while Coyle had two total blocks.  Riley White added eight service aces and Yakushenok added seven.  White and McLaughlin each had four digs.
 
UP NEXT: HSU will return to the court tomorrow evening at 5pm in Turlock, when the 'Jacks take on Stanislaus State.  The Warriors lost in four sets to Sonoma State this evening in Turlock.  After tomorrow evening's match in Turlock, HSU will return home for its final two matches of the regular season on November 11 (versus Cal State Dominguez Hills) and November 13 (versus Cal State Los Angeles).
