CARSON, Calif.--- Humboldt State (2-0) held Simon Fraser to just 38.6% shooting from the field including 22.2% from three-point land to key the Lumberjacks' four-point non-conference win.
Jaden Edwards paced the 'Jacks with second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Edwards shot seven-of-ten from the field including making a trey while blocking a shot.
John Riddick had 10 points off the bench for the 'Jacks not missing shot going four-for-four from the field and connecting on his one attempt from beyond the arc in 12 minutes.

Tae Norwood. "John (Riddick), Amari (Green) and Alonzo (Washington) gave us a much-needed spark off the bench. Those guys did a great job scoring the basketball and playing solid defense in the first half."

FIRST HALF: A
Cam Timmons lay-up off a pass from
Amari Green gave HSU a 12-8 lead in the first six minutes of the game. The 'Jacks went on a 9-3 run in the next four minutes of the game capped by a
Thomas Nelson lay-up to take a 21-11 lead. Simon Fraser (1-1) cut the 'Jack lead to 21-20 as SFU went on a 9-0 run. A
Thomas Melonja three off a pass from
Andrew Mork snapped their opponents' run. A three by Drew Bryson gave SFU a 29-28 lead with a little under three minutes left in the half. HSU came right back and took a 30-29 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by
John Riddick. Simon Fraser went on a 5-0 run to take a 34-30 lead with a minute left on the clock. An
Amari Green fast-break lay-up cut the Simon Fraser lead to 34-32 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: Simon Fraser opened the half taking a 40-34 lead in the first two minutes of the half. A
Will Johnson lay-up capped a 10-0 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 44-40 lead. The game went back and forth for the next couple of minutes with the last tie being at 54-54 during that span on a Julian Roche lay-up with 6:19 on the clock. In the next three minutes, HSU went on a 5-0 run with all five points coming from
Jaden Edwards to give the 'Jacks a 59-54 lead. A Jasdeep Singh lay-up cut the Lumberjacks' lead to 61-59 with little over 90 seconds left in regulation. Simon Fraser had several chances to take the lead or tie the game, but the Lumberjack defense held their opponents scoreless.
Bryce Mitchell sealed the win for the 'Jacks connecting on two free throws in the final seconds to give HSU the 63-59 non-conference win.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Jaden Edwards had his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Edwards shot seven-for-ten from the field including one-for-two from three-point land. The junior transfer also had one blocked shot in 29 minutes of action. For the weekend, he averaged 15.5 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 48% from the field and 80% from the line.
27 POINTS OFF THE BENCH: Humboldt State's bench outscored Simon Fraser's 27-14.
John Riddick scored 10 points in 12 minutes while
Amari Green added eight points and
Alonzo Washington had seven points.
40-33 ADVANTAGE: The 'Jacks won the battle of the boards 40-33 including 10 rebounds coming from
Jaden Edwards.
Cam Timmons had seven while
Alonzo Washington and
Thomas Melonja each had four.
JUST 38%: HSU's defense held Simon Fraser to just 38.6% shooting from the field including just 22% from three-point land. Simon Fraser connected on just four of its 18 attempts from beyond the arc including just one of its 11 attempts in the second half.

What a way to start your career here at HSU with back to back double-doubles. He plays with a ton of energy and passion and it showed in the box scores versus Western Washington and Simon Fraser."
"Overall, the opportunity to come home with two region wins is an important step in the right direction for our program," noted Norwood. "There are still a ton of things we need to do better if we are going to compete at the top of the CCAA. However, I am ecstatic to have an opportunity to finally play in front of our fans at Lumberjack Arena this coming Saturday."
