Lumberjacks Look to Continue Winning Ways on The Road This Saturday

Ashley Peralta and her 'Jack Teammates Will Begin a three-game road trip this Saturday
ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State Lumberjacks will look to extend their three-game winning streak this Saturday, December 11, when the 'Jacks travel to Turlock for a 5:30pm tip-off with the Stanislaus State Warriors.  The Lumberjacks improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA after defeating SF State 58-56 and Cal State Monterey Bay 65-59 this past weekend at home.
 
COACHING STAFF:  The 'Jacks are coached by sixth-year head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. Coach Bento-Jackson is 219-191 in her sixteen years as a head coach.  During those 16 years, she also has had four losing seasons including just one at Humboldt State. Prior to being the head coach at HSU, Bento-Jackson was the head coach at Santa Clara and Texas A&M-International.  She is assisted by Humboldt State Alum and former Lumberjack men's basketball player Guillermo Blas. 
 
LAST WEEK'S GAMES: HSU started CCAA play with two home wins over SF State and Cal State Monterey Bay.  The 'Jacks started their week with a 58-56 win over the Gators on Thursday behind Julia Iman's 21 points and seven rebounds while Madison Parry chipped in 18 points for the victors. They came back and defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 65-59 on Saturday behind Iman's second double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Kaz Parks added 14 points while Ashley Peralta chipped in 11 points for HSU.
 
UPDATE ON THE 'JACKS:  The Lumberjacks enter this week with a 3-3 overall record and a 2-0 CCAA record.  They are averaging 61.2 points per game while giving up 59.7 points per game. HSU is being out-rebounded 37.5 to 35.3.  Julia Iman leads the way with her 14.2 scoring and 9.0 rebounding averages along with her 12 steals and 46.3% shooting from the field.  Madison Parry is averaging 13.8 points per game while Kaz Parks is averaging 11.6 points per game.  Parry leads the team with her 73.1% shooting from the line and four blocked shots.  Parks has made a team leading 13 three's while shooting a team high 36.1% shooting from three-point range.  Ashley Peralta leads HSU with her 19 assists. 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  Two Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in Julia Iman and Madison Parry.  Iman scored 18 points and grabbed a season high 15 rebounds (10 defensive) for HSU against the Penguins on November 17 in 33 minutes. She recorded her second double-double in HSU's win over Cal State Monterey Bay this past weekend with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Parry scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds (10 defensive) for the 'Jacks in their 66-49 win over Dominican on November 27. 
 
CCAA RANKINGS:  As a team, the Lumberjacks is third in the CCAA in scoring defense (59.7 ppg), field goal percentage defense (38.5%) and three-point field goal percentage defense (23.9%).  They are also fourth in three-point field goal percentage (30.8%) and assist/turnover ratio (+0.83) and are sixth in scoring margin (+3.4).
 
REGION MATCH-UP  All four non-conference games for the 'Jacks were against NCAA Division II West Region opponents which are very important for rankings.  HSU lost its first two games of the season against two Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (68-56) and Seattle Pacific (54-52) in Seattle, Wash. The 'Jacks went 1-1 against Dominican, who is a member of the PacWest Conference.  They lost 72-70 in San Rafael to the Penguins and defeated them 66-49 in Arcata.  The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
 
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA:  Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena.  The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships.  March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5.  The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.

STANISLAUS STATE:  The Warriors head into their non-conference game on Thursday at home versus Seattle Pacific with a 7-1 overall record and a 3-0 CCAA record.  They have won their last seven games in a row since losing 67-66 to Central Washington to begin the season.  Stanislaus State is averaging 66.8 points per game while giving up 58.4 points per game.  The Warriors out-rebounding their opponents 44.3 to 44.1.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Kyanna Davis (20.1 ppg), Da'Myiah Lewis (12.0 ppg), Kaleigh Taylor (10.6 ppg) and Liliana Marques (10.1 ppg).  Davis leads the team with her 8.8 rebounding average and 23 assists while she is tied for the team lead with 17 steals with Amaya McLeod.  Lewis is shooting a team high 80.8% from the line while recording a team high 24 steals.  Davis also leads the team with her 19 three's made and 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES (HSU vs. STANISLAUS:  Humboldt State 22-7 with each team winning the last two meetings on their own court.  The 'Jacks won 79-72 in Arcata on January 4, 2020 and the Warriors won 65-63 in Turlock on February 22, 2020.

Tip-off times for both evenings are set for 5:30pm. The 'Jacks will return home on Sunday, January 2 at 1pm when they host Sonoma State at Lumberjack Arena.
