KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.--- Humboldt State's late second half rally fell short in this afternoon's 75-67 Oregon Tech win over the visiting Lumberjacks at Danny Miles Court in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Keshawn Hall's career high 17 points lead the way for the Lumberjacks. Three other players scored in double figures for Humboldt State in
Victor Mijas (14 points),
AJ Sims (13 points) and
Kody Knox (10 points).
Three-time defending NAIA Champion, Oregon Tech, was led by the duo of Harrison Steiger and Kameron Osborn each with 14 points. The Hustlin' Owls playing in their ninth match of the regular season shot 57% from the field and were 18-for-21 from the charity stripe
Hall, who played in his home state, shot six-for-nine from the field including make his only attempt from beyond the three-point line and going four-for-four from the charity stripe. Hall grabbed a rebound and recorded a steal in 18 minutes off the bench.
Humboldt State connected on 10 of its 26 attempts from beyond the arc. Mijas went four-for-seven while Knox went two-for-four and Sims was two-for-six. Also connecting on their attempts from three-point land were
Bryce Mitchell and Hall.
The Lumberjacks forced 16 turnovers by Oregon Tech including five by steals with two coming from Sims. Humboldt State had 11 assists with just nine turnovers paced by
Amari Green and Sims each with three assists while
Isaiah Hughes dished out two.
The first half went back and forth with Sims' three giving HSU a 26-21 lead with five minutes left in the half. Oregon Tech went on a 10-1 run to take a 31-27 lead with just 2:49 left in the first half. A lay-up by Mijas capped a 6-2 run by the 'Jacks as they tied the game at 33, but a jumper by Jamison Guerra gave OIT a 35-33 lead heading into the locker room.
The hosts built a double-digit lead (54-44) in the first nine minutes of the new stanza. The Lumberjacks didn't go away as they cut the deficit to 58-54 as they went on a 10-4 run in the next two minutes capped by Mijas' three.
Oregon Tech came right back and increased its lead to 70-54 with six minutes left in regulation. Once again, the Lumberjacks fought back and went on a 13-3 run capped by a two made free throws by Sims to cut the OIT lead to 73-67 with 64 seconds on the clock.
Two made free throws by Osborn sealed the win for the Hustlin' Owls.
Humboldt State will return to the court this Tuesday, April 20 for a 6pm scheduled game with Warner Pacific in Portland, Ore. The 'Jacks will conclude their three-game road trip with a game on Wednesday, April 21 at 6pm in Ashland, Ore., against Southern Oregon.
