Saints Snap Humboldt State’s Streak at Seven

LACEY, Wash.---  The Saint Martin's Saints used a five-run second inning to key their 11-3 (five-innings) victory over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks (7-2) this afternoon in Lacey, Wash. The win by Saint Martin's snaps the Lumberjacks' seven-game winning streak.  The trio of Danica Grier, Izzy Starr and Vanessa Saltos went a combined six-for-nine to lead the way for the Lumberjacks.
 
Humboldt State took a 3-0 early lead to begin the game.  Micaela Harris had a lead-off double and scored on a one-out single by Danica GrierHaley Suter had a single to left center and advanced to second on a Saint error while Grier scored to give HSU a 2-0 lead.  The Lumberjacks took a 3-0 lead on a double by Starr which drove in Suter.
 
Saint Martin's (11-12) scored five runs on six hits in its half of the second to take a 5-3 lead.  All five Saint runs were unearned.  The hosts took a 7-3 lead with a two-run fourth capped by a two-out two-run single by Julia Lucas. 
 
The Saints won the game in their half of the fifth-inning with a four-run inning.  Lucas' two-run single secured the 11-3 win for the hosts.
 
Gaige Garcia (0-1) suffered the loss for Humboldt State, who pitched three innings, giving up six hits, five runs of which one was earned while striking out one.  Emily McAdams started the game, pitching 1.2 innings, giving up six hits and five unearned runs while walking one.  Megan Escobar also pitched for the guests. 
 
Humboldt State will end its road trip to Washington with a five-game series with Central Washington beginning with a 1pm doubleheader in Ellensburg, Wash., this Friday, April 9.
