HAYWARD, Calif--- Humboldt State improved to 4-0 this afternoon with its fourth straight shutout, this time a 3-0 win over the Holy Names University Hawks at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, Calif. This was the first time since 1989 that the Lumberjacks have posted four shutouts in a row. HSU's goalkeeper
Adrian Gallardo had two saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season.
FIRST HALF: The first half saw eleven combined shot attempts by both teams including seven by the 'Jacks. The Lumberjacks had both shot on goal attempts in the first 45 minutes. The first came in the 36
th minute, when
Ethan Conaty's shot was stopped by the Hawks' Rasmus Nielsen. With five minutes left in the half, Nielsen stopped
Dylan Tovani's shot to give the 'Jacks the 1-0 lead to send the match into halftime scoreless.
SECOND HALF: The match remained scoreless until the 51
st minute when
Alejandro Lopez connected on a ball from
Marco Silveira. The 'Jacks had a chance to double their lead when
Devin Hauenstein's shot was stopped by the Hawks' defense. Holy Names (1-2) a chance to tie the match at 1-1 when
Adrian Gallardo his first of two saves in the 62
nd minute. Gallardo recorded his second save in the 79
th minute of the match. Silveira sealed the win for the 'Jacks when he scored as Gallardo kicked the ball to
Daniel Adeyeye and then Silveira was flicked the ball from Adeyeye for the goal in the 89
th minute.
Yushi Kato scored HSU's third goal of the match and second in less than a minute on a ball from Silveira as the 'Jacks took the match 3-0.
WHAT A START FOR GALLARDO: Adrian Gallardo has recorded 11 saves in his first four matches this season. He has a 0.00 goals against average, 1.000 saves percentage and four shutouts. Gallardo has faced 48 shots and not let a goal slip by him in goal for the 'Jacks.
NOW IN SECOND PLACE: Marco Silveira moved into second place on the Humboldt State all-time career list in assists with 21 after recording two assists in today's victory. He also has scored 11 goals in his four-year career in the Green and Gold.
GAME-WINNER: Alejandro Lopez connected on his second game-winning goal of the season in the 51st minute. Lopez connected on a ball from
Marco Silveira, which was his third goal of the season.
2-0: Humboldt State went 2-0 this weekend and the 'Jacks were the only team in the four-team classic in Hayward, Calif., to go 2-0. The 'Jacks defeated Hawaii Pacific 4-0 and Holy Names 3-0. Hawaii Pacific went 1-1 with its loss to the 'Jacks and 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers of Cal State East Bay also went 1-1 as they defeated Holy Names 2-1 but lost 1-0 to Hawaii Pacific. Holy Names went 0-2.
