CARSON, Calif.--- Humboldt State's volleyball team finished off its six-match road trip with a four-set win (18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19) over the hosts, Cal State Dominguez Hills, this afternoon at the Torodome in Carson, Calif.
Anna Hopsodar led the way for the 'Jacks with her 13 kills and .417 hitting percentage while
Riley White (16 assists and 13 digs) and
Lenox Loving (12 kills and 12 digs) each recorded double-doubles in the Lumberjack victory.
FIRST SET: The Lumberjacks took a 11-9 lead in the first set on four consecutive kills including three by
Anna Hopsodar. Cal State Dominguez Hills (0-8, 0-2 CCAA) took a 17-15 lead on a hitting error by the visitors. HSU came right back and tied the set at 17-17 on a kill by
Lindsey McLaughlin. This was one of McLaughlin's 10 kills on the day. The Toros finished out the set scoring eight of the final nine points to take the set 25-18 and to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
SECOND SET: The hosts jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but the 'Jacks scored nine of the next eleven points to take a 10-6 lead capped by back to back kills by
Malia Coyle and
Lenox Loving. The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 16-11 on a
Hannah Cantrell off an assist from
Riley Tishlarich. The Toros cut the Lumberjack lead to 20-17, but the guests took five of the set's final seven points to take the set 25-19 and even the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: Humboldt State took an 8-4 lead in the third set capped by the blocking duo of
Katie Nall and McLaughlin with back to back blocks. HSU increased its lead to 21-11 on back to back service aces by Tishlarich. Cal State Dominguez Hills didn't go away as the Toros cut the deficit to 21-15. HSU finished out the set to take it 25-20 and to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.
FOURTH SET: The fourth set was even until the 'Jacks took a 18-11 lead capped by a McLaughlin block. HSU increased that lead to 20-13 on a kill by Hopsodar off an assist from Loving. CSUDH scored the next two points to cut the HSU lead to 20-15, but back to back kills by
Elyse McKinney and Loving gave the 'Jacks a 23-16 lead. The Toros cut HSU's lead to 24-19 but the 'Jacks secured the 25-19 set four win and 3-1 match win on a kill by Loving off a ball from Tishlarich.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Two Lumberjacks recorded double-doubles this afternoon.
Lenox Loving recorded her fourth in HSU's first six matches. Loving had 12 kills and 12 digs.
Riley White had her first double-double in the Green and Gold. White had 16 assists and 13 digs.
LEADERS: Anna Hopsodar paced HSU with 13 kills while
Lenox Loving added 12 and
Lindsey McLaughlin had 10.
Riley Tishlarich recorded three service aces and McLaughlin had two. McLaughlin had seven total blocks while Tishlarich had 24 assists and
Riley White added 16.
Carla Crespo had a match high 16 digs and White added 13 and Loving 12.
