ARCATA, Calif--- Playing in Lumberjack Arena for the first time in over two years, the Humboldt State volleyball battled in a three-set loss (13-25, 14-25, 24-26) to the visiting Stanislaus State Warriors.
Nora Thompson and
Hannah Cantrell paced the 'Jacks each with six kills while
Carla Crespo had eight digs. HSU will host Chico State tomorrow evening at 5pm to continue its four-match homestand.
FIRST SET: Stanislaus State (5-6, 1-2 CCAA) took 11-5 lead in the first set. The 'Jacks cut the deficit to 13-8 on a service ace by
Nora Thompson. The Warriors increased their lead to 22-12 on a kill by Yisel Perez. The visitors finished out the set taking three of the final four points capped by a Kiara Erving kill to take the first set 25-13.
SECOND SET: The Warriors jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set. Humboldt State cut the deficit to 9-6 on a
Lindsey McLaughlin service ace. The visitors came right back and increased their lead to 22-11 on back to back kills by Macky Morris and Mya Marshall. A kill by McLaughlin cut the Warrior lead to 23-14, but the Warriors finished out the set taking the next two points taking the set 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: Humboldt State (3-4, 1-2 CCAA) came out strong in the third set to take a 4-1 lead on a kill by
Hannah Cantrell. The Warriors tied the set at 7-7 on a kill by Macky Morris. The set went back and forth until the 'Jacks took a 18-17 lead on a
Carla Crespo ace. The 'Jacks increased their lead to 22-20 on a kill by
Nora Thompson, but the Warriors would not go away. They cut the lead to 22-21 on a kill by Mya Marshall. HSU took the next three points to take a 24-21 lead on a kill by
Anna Hopsodar and a service ace by
Lindsey McLaughlin. The Warriors took the next four points to take a 25-24 lead and finished the set on a kill by Kiara Erving to take the set 26-24 and the match 3-0

Kaitlyn Patterson and

UP NEXT: Humboldt State will host Chico State tomorrow at 5pm. The Wildcats lost at Sonoma State earlier today (21-25, 21-25, 21-25) in Rohnert Park. This will be the second time that the teams have faced each other this season. HSU lost in four-sets to the Wildcats earlier this month in Rohnert Park.
