Volleyball Hosts Stanislaus State and Chico State in Home Openers

ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State's volleyball team will begin its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season with a pair of matches in Southern California.  The Lumberjacks will begin CCAA action with a 4pm starting match this Friday, September 17 in Los Angeles against Cal State Los Angeles.  They will finish off their weekend at noon on Saturday, September 18 with a match in Carson against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
 
COACHING STAFF:  The 'Jacks are coached by eighth-year head coach Kelly Wood.  Coach Wood is assisted by Paul Castillo who is in his third season on Coach Wood's staff.
 
RECAP OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: Humboldt State went 1-1 on its opening CCAA weekend on the road in Southern California this past weekend.  The 'Jacks started the weekend with a four-set loss at Cal State Los Angeles.  Lindsey McLaughlin paced HSU with her 13 kills while Carla Crespo had 30 digs and McLaughlin along with Hannah Cantrell and Malia Coyle each had three total blocks.  HSU rebounded the next day with a four-set win at Cal State Dominguez Hills behind Anna Hopsodar's 13 kills.  Lenox Loving and Riley White each recorded a double-double.  Loving had 12 kills and 12 digs while White had 16 assists and 13 digs.  Riley Tishlarich had three service aces to go with her 24 assists while Crespo had 16 digs. 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Lenox Loving and Riley White each have recorded double-doubles this season in either kills and digs or assists and digs.  Loving has recorded a double-double in four of the Lumberjacks' six matches including a 12-kill, 12-dig performance at Cal State Dominguez Hills. White recorded her first one this past weekend as a 'Jack with her 16-assists, 13-dig performance in the Lumberjacks' win at CSUDH.
 
TEAM LEADERS:  Lindsey McLaughlin leads HSU with her 24 total bocks and is tied with Carla Crespo each with 10 service aces.  Riley Tishlarich leads the 'Jacks with her 138 assists while Crespo has a team high 121 digs.  Lenox Loving leads HSU with her 80 kills and McLaughlin has a team high .408 hitting percentage. 
 
CCAA LEADERS:  Carla Crespo leads the CCAA with her 5.04 digs/set average and is tied for tenth with Lindsey McLaughlin each with a 0.42 aces/set average.  McLaughlin is fourth in the conference with her .408 hitting percentage and fifth with her 1.00 blocks/set average.

STANISLAUS STATE:  Humboldt State will host Stanislaus State this Friday, Sept. 24 at 5pm in its home opener of the 2021 season.  The Warriors are 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA after dropping both of their home matches last weekend in three sets to then #25 Cal Poly Pomona and #14 Cal State San Bernardino.  Myra Marshall leads Stanislaus State with her 88 kills followed by Ellison Weaver's 87 kills. Chelsey Berry has a team leading 165 digs and Kiara Erving has a team high 36 total blocks. Haley Burdo is leading the Warriors with her 228 assists and 17 service aces. 
 
The Warriors lead the all-time series with HSU 17-11 including winning the last seven matches in a row.  The last Lumberjack win was a four-set win in 2016 in Arcata. 
 
CHICO STATE:  The Wildcats will face Humboldt State this Saturday, Sept. 25 at 5pm.  Chico State is 4-6 overall and 0-2 after losing both of its matches last weekend in three sets to #14 Cal State San Bernardino and #25 Cal Poly Pomona at home in Chico.  Makaela Keeve leads Chico State with her 130 kills, 15 service aces and 30 blocks.  Brooke Ono has 359 assists and Zoe DiNardo has a team leading 58 digs. 
 
LAST TIME:  Chico State defeated the 'Jacks in four-sets (25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15) two weeks ago in the Seawolf/Gator Classic in Rohnert Park.  Keeve paced the Wildcats with her 15 kills, six block performance.  Loving had 10 kills for the 'Jacks and Hannah Cantrell had eight total blocks.  Chico State leads the all-time series with the Lumberjacks 24-3 including winning the last nine straight matches.  HSU's last win over the Wildcats was a four-set win in Arcata in 2016. 
 
UP NEXT:  The Lumberjacks will continue their four-match homestand next week against San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.  The 'Jacks will host San Francisco State on Thursday, September 30 at 7pm and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, October 2 at 5pm.
