Humboldt State’s Defense Keys 4-0 Win over the Nighthawks

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah--- The Humboldt State Lumberjacks recorded their second consecutive shutout with a 4-0 win over the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks this afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Alejandro Lopez connected on his first goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner on a cross from Marco Silveira in the 11th minute. HSU's three other goals came from Silveira, Dylan Tovani and Nicolas Herrera Land
 
GAME-WINNER:  Alejandro Lopez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal this after connecting on a ball from Marco Silveira in the 11th minute.  Then with 27 minutes left in regulation, Lopez connected on unassisted goal to double HSU's lead to 4-0.
 
HAVE A WEEKEND:  Marco Silveira continued his stellar weekend today with a goal and assist.  Silveira assisted on the match's first goal in the 11th minute on a cross to Alejandro Lopez.  He doubled the Lumberjacks' lead to 2-0 in the 55th minute on an unassisted goal in the 55th minute.  The senior forward finished the weekend with two goals and two assists.  He was a part of four of the Lumberjacks' six goals this weekend including both game-winners. His first game-winner was in Thursday's 2-0 win over Westminster on a ball from Nicolas Herrera-Land.  The second game-winner was on an assist from Silveira to Lopez.  For his career, he has 10 goals and 17 assists. 
 
GALLARDO:  Adrian Gallardo recorded four saves in goal for the Lumberjacks (two in each half) for his second consecutive shutout.  For the weekend, Gallardo had nine saves and two shutouts for the 2-0 Lumberjacks.
 
TWO FIRSTS:  Besides Lopez scoring his first goal in a Lumberjack uniform, Nicolas Herrera Land's goal on a ball from Gou Nitta in the 75th minute was his first goal in the Green and Gold.  Scoring his first goal of the season was Dylan Tovani in the 63rd minute which was his first goal in his collegiate career at HSU.
 
FIRST TIME SINCE 2017:  The back to back shutouts that the Lumberjack recorded this past weekend are the first time that has happened since 2017 when HSU defeated Saint Martin's (3-0) and Academy of Art (1-0) on September 2 and 8.
 
2-0 IN UTAH:  The Lumberjacks were the only team in the four-team classic that went 2-0 this weekend.  HSU scored six goals and recorded back to back shutouts.  They defeated Westminster 2-0 and Northwest Nazarene 4-0.  SF State lost to Northwest Nazarene 3-1 and defeated Westminster 3-0.  Northwest Nazarene went 1-1 and Westminster 0-2.
 
UP NEXT:  The Lumberjacks will continue its season beginning four-match road trip next weekend for a pair of matches in Hayward, Calif., on the campus of Cal State East Bay on September 10 and 12.  HSU will face two PacWest Conference opponents in Hawai'i Pacific (September 10 at 7pm) and Holy Names (September 12 at 2pm).
 
HOME OPENER:  Humboldt State will have its home opener on Friday, September 17 at 3pm, when the Lumberjacks host Simpson in a non-conference match-up at College Creek Field.
