HAYWARD, Calif—The first place Cal State East Bay Pioneers (12-1, 7-0 CCAA) outscored the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks 21-10 in the third quarter to key their 76-55 win over the 'Jacks.
Julia Iman paced HSU with a game high 17 points and had eight rebounds. Freshman
Madison Parry chipped in 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the 'Jacks.
FIRST QUARTER: Cal State East Bay outscored its visitors 7-2 in the first three minutes of the quarter. The 'Jacks went on a 11-4 run in the next four minutes to take a 13-11 lead capped by three by
Madison Parry. The Pioneers tied the game at 13-13 on two free throws by Sylvia Vartazarian. HSU retook the lead on a free throw by
Julia Iman on its next possession. A Taylor Linzie lay-up capped a 4-1 run by the Pioneers to end the quarter and give the hosts a 17-14 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: An Abigail Cooper jumper increased the hosts' lead to 23-18 four minutes into the second quarter. A three by Grace Campbell increased Cal State East Bay's lead to 30-20 with just four minutes left in the half. A
Jadence Clifton lay-up cut the deficit to 33-27 with less than two minutes to go in the half, but Campbell hit another three to send the Pioneers into the half leading 36-27.
THIRD QUARTER: Cal State East Bay started the third quarter outscoring the 'Jacks 13-2 to take a 49-29 lead mid-way through the quarter. A three by
Kaz Parks off a pass from
Sharon Roldan cut the 'Jack deficit to 49-35, but Cal State East Bay finished the half outscoring its guests 8-2 to take a 57-37 lead into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: The Pioneers twice increased their lead to 27 including on a lay-up by Taylor Linzie just three minutes into the final ten-minute period. A three by
Julia Iman off a pass from
Jadence Clifton cut the Pioneer lead to 74-55 with just 50 seconds on the clock. Two Zhane Duckett free throws made the final Cal State East Bay 76, Humboldt State 55.
JUST SHORT: Julia Iman and
Madison Parry fell short of their sixth and fourth double-doubles of the season. Iman finished with 17 points and eight rebounds while Parry had 11 points and nine rebounds.
SWAT THAT SHOT: Madison Parry had a season high three blocked shots this evening while
Julia Iman had one. Both Iman and Parry have a team leading eight blocked shots.
UP NEXT: The 'Jacks will travel to Southern California for their next game this Saturday, January 22. HSU will face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a 1pm scheduled CCAA game in Carson, Calif. The Toros defeated Sonoma State 53-45 this evening in Carson.
