Toros Hold Off Fourth Quarter Rally By The ‘Jacks

CARSON, Calif—Cal State Dominguez Hills held off a fourth quarter rally by the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks to defeat the 'Jacks 70-60 this afternoon in a CCAA game in Carson, Calif.  Madison Parry paced the 'Jacks with 19 points as she went eight-for-11 from the field and three-for-four from the line.  Jadence Clifton had a career night with 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.  Julia Iman chipped in 11 points for Humboldt State.
 
FIRST QUARTER: Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-7, 5-4 CCAA) took an early 8-4 lead in the first four minutes of the quarter.   A Citlaly Davalos' lay-up off of one of Jadence Clifton's season high seven assists capped a 16-2 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 20-10 lead late in the quarter.  The Toros finished the quarter outscoring Humboldt 5-2 to cut the Lumberjack lead to 22-15 heading into the second quarter. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:   The Toros came out on fire in the second quarter and cut their deficit to 28-26 on a jumper by Deejanae Poland mid-way through the quarter.  They took a 32-28 on another jumper by Poland with 2:13 left in the half.  An Asia Jordan lay-up increased the Toros' lead to 36-30 heading into the half. 
 
THIRD QUARTER: Cal State Dominguez Hills started the third quarter where it left off the second as the Toros took a 47-35 lead with four minutes into the quarter.  A Jadence Clifton cut the Lumberjack deficit to 53-41 late in the quarter, but a Deejanae Poland jumper gave CSUDH a 55-41 heading into the fourth quarter. 
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  A three by Auren Isaacson gave the hosts a 58-41 lead one minute into the final quarter.  Julia Iman's lay-up capped a 11-0 run by the 'Jacks as they cut their deficit to 58-52 with 5:22 left in regulation.  A jumper by Asia Jordan increased the Toros' lead back to double digits (66-56) with one-minute left in the game.  A Danyell Booker gave CSUDH a 70-58 late in the game as the Toros held on for the 70-60 victory.
 
CAREER DAY:  Jadence Clifton had a career day this afternoon in Carson.  The freshman guard scored 14 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds.  She went five-for-ten from the field including two-for-four from three-point range and a perfect two-for-two from the line.
 
ANOTHER DOUBLE-DIGIT PERFORMANCE:  Madison Parry scored in double digits for Humboldt State (4-9, 3-6 CCAA) for the 12th time this afternoon with her 19 points.  Parry went eight-for-eleven from the field and three-for-four from the line.
 
15/24:  The 'Jacks had 15 assists on their 24 made field goals with seven coming from Jadence CliftonCitlaly Davalos added four assists, Julia Iman dished out three and Kaz Parks had one.
 
UP NEXT:  The 'Jacks will return home to the friendly confines of the Lumberjack Arena next week. They will host Chico State on Thursday, January 27 and Stanislaus State on Saturday, January 29. Both contests are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30pm.
