ARCATA, Calif—The visiting Stanislaus State Warriors held Cal Poly Humboldt to just 13% shooting from the field to key their 64-40 win over the 'Jacks.
Jaden Edwards and
Austin Harris combined for 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Humboldt.
FIRST HALF: Stanislaus State (6-9, 3-7 CCAA) jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game to start the half. A three by
Alonzo Washington capped a 5-0 run by the 'Jacks as they cut the deficit to 14-5. A Tony Singleton three increased the visitors' lead to 33-8 with 86 seconds left in the half. An
Austin Harris free throw made it Stanislaus State 33-9 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors kept it going early in the second half as they increased their lead to 46-13 on a jumper by Keegan Cummins. A made free throw by
Bryce Mitchell cut the Warrior lead to 57-33 with five minutes left in the game, but the visitors held on for the 64-40 road win.
TWO IN DOUBLE FIGURES: Cal Poly Humboldt (10-8, 4-8 CCAA) were led by
Austin Harris and
Jaden Edwards each with 10 points.
JUST MISSED NUMBER TEN: Jaden Edwards was one rebound off from his tenth double-double of the season and fourth consecutive. Edwards had nine rebounds to lead the 'Jacks in that category this evening.
WON THE BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: Humboldt won the battle of the boards this evening, 33-31.
Jaden Edwards led the way with nine rebounds while
AJ Sims had seven.
Amari Green and
Thomas Melonja each had four.
ONE GAME OUT: The 'Jacks are one game out of the sixth spot in the CCAA standings. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a bid to the CCAA Basketball Championships, March 3-5, hosted by Cal Poly Humboldt. SF State is in the sixth spot with its 5-7 CCAA record followed by the 'Jacks at 4-8. The top five teams and their conference records are Cal State San Bernardino (10-1), Cal State San Marcos (10-2), Chico State (8-2), Cal State Monterey Bay (8-3) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-5).
UP NEXT: The 'Jacks will be back on the road for a pair of CCAA games this coming week. They will be in Seaside, Calif., for a 7:30pm scheduled game with Cal State Monterey Bay on February 3. Cal Poly Humboldt will face SF State a week from tonight, February 5, in a 3pm scheduled game in San Francisco.
