SEASIDE, Calif.--- Cal State Monterey Bay (10-5, 9-3 CCAA) shot 52.6% from the field for the game including 50% from beyond the arc to key the Otters' 86-65 win over the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks.
Jaden Edwards paced the 'Jacks with 14 points and seven rebounds while
Austin Harris chipped in 12 points.
FIRST HALF: The Otters jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first three minute of the game. Cal Poly Humboldt went on a 9-0 run capped by a
Thomas Melonja lay-up to tie the game at 17-17 just five minutes into the game. A Kyle Johnson lay-up gave CSUMB a 27-21 lead, but a three by
Bryce Mitchell cut the deficit to 27-21. With eight minutes left in the half, the Otters increased their lead to 38-26. The 'Jacks came right back and cut the deficit to 38-32 on a three by
Jaden Edwards off a pass from Melonja. CSUMB finished the half outscoring its guests 21-4 to take a 59-36 heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The hosts increased its lead to 66-46 nine minutes into the second half. A
Derek Burgess II three off a pass from
Andrew Mork cut the Otter lead to 83-60 with 2:41 left in regulation. The 'Jacks outscored CSUMB 5-3 in the final minutes but the Otters took the 86-65 victory.
TWO GAMES: Heading into the final three weeks of the regular season the Lumberjacks (10-9, 4-9 CCAA) are just two games out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Championships. The 'Jacks are in tenth place. SF State is sixth followed by Cal Poly Pomona in seventh, Cal State East Bay in eighth and Cal State Los Angeles in ninth.
SEASON HIGH: Austin Harris scored a season high 13 points this evening for the 'Jacks. He went five-for-12 from the field including one-for-two from three-point land and connected on his only free throw.
Also recording a season high was
Derek Burgess II with eight points in five minutes.
