ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt hosted the 22nd ranked Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena. Although the Lumberjacks built momentum as the match went on, the Broncos rode away with a 3-0 sweep. The first set was a set of runs for Cal Poly Pomona, as they went on four 3-0 runs and a 6-0 run to cushion their lead on the Lumberjacks early and take set one with a final of 25-12. The Lumberjacks kept it close to start the second set, but attack errors proved costly and the Broncos closed out the second set after going on a 8-3 run to win set two with a final of 25-16. Cal Poly Humboldt didn't go down without a fight and exchanged points with Pomona, keeping it tied at 13 points a piece in the third set. The Jacks grabbed the momentum and jumped ahead of the Broncos 21-20 but Pomona stormed back and came out on top of set three with a final of 25-23.
Lindsey McLaughlin led the Lumberjacks on the offensive side of the ball with 10 kills, while
Kaitlyn Patterson led all players on the defensive side of the ball with 18 digs.
Riley Tishlarich and
Kailie Flores both recorded two service aces.
Nicole Yakushenok led the Jacks with 15 assists. Daisy Duke of Cal Poly Pomona led all players in the contest with 13 kills.
The Lumberjacks honored
Riley Tishlarich,
Macy Thomas,
Malia Coyle, and
Lenox Loving tonight as it was their final home match for the four seniors at Lumberjack Arena.
Cal Poly Humboldt currently sits at 2-17 (1-15 CCAA) and will travel for the final road trip of the year next week. On Thursday, Nov. 3 the Jacks take on Cal State San Marcos at 5 P.M. then head up the state to Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Nov. 5 for another 5 P.M. match.
