‘Jacks to Finish Off Season Beginning 16-Game Road Trip at Cal State East Bay

JoAna Mullins is Second on the Team in Batting Average
ARCATA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks will look to continue their winning ways this weekend in Hayward, Calif., as they finish off their season long 16-game road trip.  The (7-5, 3-1 CCAA) 'Jacks will face the Cal State East Bay Pioneers in a four-game CCAA series at Pioneer Softball Field on the campus of Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif.  The series will begin on Friday, February 25 with a noon starting doubleheader.  It will conclude on Saturday, February 26 with an 11am starting doubleheader. 
 
RECAP OF LAST TRIP:  The 'Jacks went 3-1 in their four-games at Cal State Dominguez Hills in their conference openers in Carson, Calif.  They won the opener 5-3 as Karen Di Dio pitched a complete game victory.  She gave up nine hits, three runs (one earned) while striking out two.  Micaela Harris went 2-for-3 with a solo home run while scoring two runs to lead the way for the 'Jacks.  The Toros took the night cap 13-3 in five innings as Gaige Garcia suffered the loss.  Katelyn Dendas and JoAna Mullins each went 2-for-3. Anna Brondos drove in two runs while Dendas scored twice.
 
Humboldt swept the doubleheader on Saturday.  The 'Jacks won game three 9-6 as Di Dio (4-0) picked up the win.  She gave up nine hits, six runs (four earned) while striking out three and walking one. Vanessa Saltos went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in, three runs scored and three home runs.  Megan Escobar and Mullins each had two hits apiece.  The 'Jacks on the series finale 7-2 with Garcia (3-2) picking up the complete game victory.  Harris went 3-for-3 with a run scored while Saltos was 1-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored and a home run.  Escobar was 1-for3 with a solo home run.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS' OFFENSE:  Cal Poly Humboldt is 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA after taking three out of four from Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The 'Jacks are hitting .332 as a team with five players hitting over .300 in Micaela Harris (.512), JoAna Mullins (.395), Vanessa Saltos (.368), Katleyn Dendas (.350) and Izzy Starr (.349).  Starr leads the team with her 17 runs batted in while Saltos has hit a team leading five home runs.  Harris leads Humboldt with her .977 slugging percentage, .563 on-base percentage, five triples, 10 stolen bases, 22 hits and 18 runs scored.  Dendas has hit a team high five doubles. 
 
LUMBERJACKS PITCHING STAFF IN REVIEW:  Humboldt's team earned run average (ERA) is 5.90 heading into this weekend.  Karen Di Dio leads the way with her 4-0 record, team low 3.09 ERA, 31.2 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts with just five walks.  Gaige Garcis is 3-2 with her 4.06 ERA and 20.2 innings pitched.
 
NATIONALLY RANKED:  Cal Poly Humboldt as a team are in the top 30 in the nation in five categories.  The 'Jacks are 12th in doubles, 14th in home runs, 17th in slugging percentage, 18th in double plays and 28th in runs scored.  Two players in Micaela Harris and Vanessa Saltos are in the top 15 in the nation in three categories.  Harris is second in triples and 15th in stolen bases while Saltos is tenth in home runs. 
 
AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS:  The 'Jacks are the top five in the CCAA in 11 team statistical categories.  They are leading the CCAA in home runs, doubles, triples, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and total bases.  Humboldt is second in batting average, runs scored and runs batted in while they are third in stolen bases and fourth in hits. 
 
Six 'Jacks are in the top ten in 14 individual categories. Micaela Harris leads the CCAA in batting average, slugging percentage and triples while she is second in runs scored and hits. Harris is third in stolen bases, fifth in on-base percentage and tied for seventh in home runs.  Katelyn Dendas is second triples, tied for fifth in doubles, tied for seventh in home runs, seventh in runs scored and tied for seventh in slugging percentage. Vanessa Saltos leads the CCAA in home runs and is third in runs batted in, fourth in slugging percentage and tied for eighth in runs scored.  Karen Di DIo is tied for sixth in wins, tied for ninth in strikeouts and tenth in innings pitched.  Izzy Starr leads the conference in runs batted in and is tied for fourth in home runs while Alyssa Ramirez is tied for fourth in doubles. 
 
39 FOR 40:   Micaela Harris was finally caught stealing this past weekend in Carson, Calif., for the first time in over two years.  She is now 39-for-40 in stolen base attempts since 2020.  She went 18 for 18 in 2020, 11 for 11 in 2021 and is ten for 11 this season.  For her career, Harris is 75 for 79 in stolen base attempts. The senior outfielder/catcher is fifth on the Lumberjacks' all-time list.  Andrea Williams (2001-04) is tied for fourth with Andrea Williams (2001-04) with her 87 stolen bases,
 
HARRIS ALSO MOVIN' ON UP IN:  Micaela Harris is fourth in triples (13) and ninth in runs scored (165).  She is five triples from moving past April Tursky (1998-2001) into fourth places.  Jamie Peterson (1996-99) holds the all-time record with 28.  Harris is two from moving past Tiffany Hollingsworth (2014-17) into eighth place on the runs list.  Jennifer Fritz (1993-96) holds the Humboldt career record with 195. 
 
CAL STATE EAST BAY: The Pioneers are 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA after splitting their conference opening four-game series this weekend at Cal State San Bernardino.  The two teams split their weekend series.  CSUSB won game one 3-0 and East Bay won game two 2-1.  The Pioneers lost game three 8-7 with the Yotes losing the series finale 8-7. 
 
Cal State East Bay is hitting .305 as a team and has a 1.91 earned run average.  Five players are hitting over .300 for the Pioneers in Annelise Garcia (.458), Searah Duran (.378), Sarah Fukushima (.375), Serena Cadena (.367) and Gabiela Rivera (.343).  Ramirez has driven in a team high 11 runs while Garcia has a team high .792 slugging percentage and .552 on-base percentage.  Duran leads the team with her five doubles and is tied with Fukushima each with 11 runs scored.  Anamaria Beard has a team best 5-1 record with a team low 1.68 earned run average while Abby Greer has struck out a team leading 39 batters. 
 
21-16 HUMBOLDT:  Cal Poly Humboldt leads the all-time series with Cal State East Bay 21-16.  Humboldt won three out of the four games March 6-7, 2020 in Hayward.  The 'Jacks lost the series opener 8-6, but came back and won the final three games 16-0 (5), 17-1 (5) and 9-8 (9).  Micaela Harris scored the game-winning run the series finale on a single by Lexie Shiering.  In that game, Izzy Starr went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, three runs scored and a home run.
