Second Half Surge Keys ‘Jacks 70-59 Win at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif.--- The visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks outscored their guests 35-22 in the second half including 21-9 in the third quarter to key their 70-59 road conference win at Cal State Monterey Bay.  The trio of Kaz Parks, Madison Parry and Ashley Peralta carried the 'Jacks past the Otters.  Parks tied her season high 21 points while Madison Parry added 19 points and Ashley Peralta chipped in 17 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Cal State Monterey Bay (1-14, 0-11 CCAA) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes of the quarter.  The 'Jacks got on the board at the 7:01 mark of the first quarter on a three by Ashley Peralta off a pass from Madison Parry. Humboldt went on a 11-3 run and took a 14-12 lead on a lay-up by Jadence Clifton with just 3:34 left in the quarter.  The guests took a 20-18 lead into the second quarter on two made free throws by Madison Parry.
 
SECONE QUARTER:  A Citlaly Davalos' lay-up off a pass from Jadence Clifton capped a 5-0 run by the 'Jacks to begin the second quarter as they took a 25-20 lead.  They increased that lead to 31-25 on a three by Kaz Parks off a pass from Ashley Peralta with 4:13 left in the half.  The Otters went on a 10-2 run to take a 35-33 lead with two minutes left in the quarter. A Parks' lay-up off a pass from Davalos tied the game at 35-35, but a jumper by Lauryn Pointer gave CSUMB a 37-35 lead heading into the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  Cal Poly Humboldt (7-9, 6-6 CCAA) started the second half on fire outscoring the Otters 7-2 to take a 42-39 on a lay-up by Kaz Parks off a pass from Citlaly Davalos.  Three free throws by Angelina Cortes tied the game at 42-42 mid-way through the quarter.  A three by Citlaly Davalos off a pass from Jadence Clifton capped a 8-2 run by the 'Jacks as they took a 50-44 lead.  They increased their lead to 56-44 on a lay-up by Davalos late in the quarter.  A jumper by Lauryn Pointer cut the 'Jack lead to 56-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  The 'Jacks kept their run going into the fourth taking a 60-46 lead on a lay-up by Madison Parry off a pass from Jadence Clifton.  Cal State Monterey Bay didn't go away as the Otters cut the 'Jack lead to 60-56 with 1:50 left in the game.  Humboldt finished the game outscoring the Otters 10-3 including going seven-for-eight from the line.  During the final minute, Ashley Peralta went six-for-six and Clifton went one-for-two as Humboldt took the 70-59 victory.
 
STILL HALF GAME OUT: Heading into the final three weeks of the regular season, the Lumberjacks are just half-game out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Championships.  The 'Jacks are tied for seventh place with Sonoma State a half-game behind sixth-place Chico State and one-game behind fifth-place Cal State Los Angeles.
 
THE P'S HAVE IT:  The trio of Kaz Parks, Madison Parry and Ashley Peralta paced the 'Jacks this evening in the Kelp Bend.  Parks scored a season high 21 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the field including going five-for-eight from three's.  Madison Parry added 19 points while Ashley Peralta had 17 points.
 
MORE A'S THAN T'S:  The 'Jacks dished out 18 assists with just nine turnovers this evening.  Jadence Clifton and Ashley Peralta each had six assists while Citlaly Davalos had four and Madison Parry two.
 
12-18:  Humboldt went 12-for-18 from the line this evening.  Ashley Peralta went six-for-six and Madison Parry went four-for-four.
 
UP NEXT:  Cal Poly Humboldt will be in San Francisco this Saturday, February 5 for 1pm scheduled tip-off with SF State.  The Gators lost to Sonoma State 63-60 earlier this evening in San Francisco.
